Topic: My first DS build Posted: 05 Feb 2019 at 7:59pm |
My old gaming laptop has become a relic and it was time for a new build. Here is what I ended up ordering. really really looking forward to this build. It’s been a good 2 years since I could play anything on ultra settings.
If anyone has a similar build i an very interested to know how efficient the cooling is. I am hoping this thing will run relatively silent. >45 dB. The laptop sounded like NASA’s server room when in game. Congratulations and welcome to DS. That is a nice system you have configured. I would only comment on two items: the Storage Set 1 would be better served with a 250GB Samsung 970 Evo with a longer warranty and the copper tubing will look really nice but can also be the source of frustrations if you ever have to work on your system since it will not move at all. In addition, most of the issues (leaks) during shipping with liquid cooling are from the hard tubing. Keep us posted. |

I agree on the copper tubing. If you’re comfortable working on the maintenance , draining, etc of water cooling then the copper looks awesome. Just be aware that even a simple task like seating ram sticks if issues arrive could possibly be a lot of work, depending how they run the copper. Same for graphics card and any future upgrades.
The 970 recommended by hoserator is many times faster than the m.2 with DS brand. DS is SATA and the 970 is NVME. Big difference. |

Great suggestions. I am still in stage 1. if I wanted to upgrade the M2 storage to the EVO, ar part substitutions allowed?

Yes, if you catch them before it moves along too far, they’ll change it for no extra fee, just parts cost difference. You can change a part anytime, but a fee is imposed after a certain point because of work done already.

Great. You really got me rethinking the copper tubing. I am not overly concerned with the look. I chose the copper in hopes of better efficiency. The last thing I want is leaking from shipping. I also didn't consider the maintenance aspect of it as well.

Many are suggesting you request a loop drain be installed so you can more easily flush and fill if/when needed. The liquid doesn't have to, but it can be contaminated. (Grow algae or whatever.)
I think they do that for extra $60. |

The copper tubing, unlike electrical conduction, doesn’t give any better water cooling. Mainly a looks thing. Flex tubing is just as good, easier to work on, cheaper and less likely to give issues.

Based on these recommendations here is what I am going to change up:
upgrade M.2 to the 512GB Samsung 970 PRO downgrade to flexible tubing (and request a loop drain) Considering changing Ram from DS Performance Series to the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro. Just so I know what brand I am getting. Thanks for the recommendations. I really appreciate it. I guess I should have joined the forums BEFORE I ordered. |

The drain plug is to make draining easier. You don't need a fill plug since the reservoir has one.
