Welcome to DS. The configurators will want to know what you intend to use your system for. Numbers crunching and gaming require different hardware sets to function efficiently. Not that a gaming computer will not crunch numbers or that a numbers cruncher will not game. It is just that a Hummer will not do an oval track justice the same way a Ferrari will not do off road well and they are both excellent for their intended purpose. In addition, if that was not enough, you want to state what monitor resolution you plan to use. (ie, 1080, 1440 or 2K and 2160 or 4K) That will also determine what hardware to install without spending more than necessary. Enjoy.

Budget?
Use? Resolution? Space considerations? External Factors? @hoserator,,. that vehicle analogy is spot-on and perfect. Mind if i steal it?

@Snaike: the Ferrari is on the wrong track! it will do better on a road course. ![]() Like a NASCAR vehicle on Le Mans! Apologies to the auto enthusiasts. Edited by hoserator - 03 Nov 2020 at 12:42am |

If you're going to game at 1080p then you won't need to spend 9k on a computer. You can get a very very beastly machine for about half of that. I'll let The Smart Guys® pop in with specifics here, but that kind of budget is really used for 4k machines.
Best of luck and hang on until they get here! |

I was just going to steal the analogy with Lancia's at Spa or F1s on a Rally course

"Space considerations" could mean what size and how many drives do you want, OR, do you have a compact area to put the PC in. Do you want a large case for better air flow? Things like that I am guessing.
"External Factors" might be you do lots of video editing, streaming, anything other than gaming that needs power and performance from components. If it's just web browsing, emails and such, then there are no External Factors. Hope that helps. Edited by fwfdfireman - 03 Nov 2020 at 6:22am |

You probably have no idea the Aventums run about 90+ pounds. IMHO that may not be the best choice for a first computer. It's very expensive just for the case, huge, and requires an enormous number of fans because of its size.
Actually, if you want to look at a Lumos, you can get a pretty beastly rig for under $3000. Give us a better idea.

They are huge. I went with a Velox, but a Lumos as Cretae suggested would do you just fine. Leaves extra monies for the bigger, stronger and faster goodies.
I do mostly gaming and some video editing. When discussing with DS rep. on a machine, he said, "If you got the money and just want it, then by all means buy the Aventum." He also added, "Either the Velox or Lumus configured the way you have in mind, would be every bit as good for less money" I choose the Velox, but would have easily been happy with the Lumos. It is a monster. The Aventum, Bolt and the Velox are DS's proprietary (exclusive) custom designs and with the exception of the Bolt, the windows are on the right with mobos installed upside down (gpu on top). The Aventum is shipped on a pallet by freight only.
