As you can see I am interested in a Vertex so I can install windows and games on it and have fastest load times, and also I am going to stick with windows XP because I just hate vista.

Any comment or advice is welcome, I am an expert at video games but I am a real beginner at computer configurations, so feel free to guide me please !

Also I am interested in overcloacking as much as possible what do you think my overall temps will be with that kind of air cooling?

Concerning my gaming habits, I play on a 21 CRT monitor, and usually never play above 1024, so I am not sure if I should go for the 295 or 2x275 SLI.

First: skip the SSD. when the Vertex II comes out go for that.

Second: either go XP or Vista 64.  you already have 3GB System RAM and 32 bit OS's only see 3GB it would subtract your Video RAM from the system to make up for it. I suggest Vista.  its far less buggy then it was when it first came out.

Third: with the money you save from skipping the SSD you can get 6GB instead.

Fourth: get a DVD burner.

Do you have a specific budget in mind i.e. under $3k?

this build will be $2587 after discount.

Yes my budget is under $3k. So how long should I wait for the vertex II you think? and what will be the price range of it?

What about velociraptor?

For times and prices we dont know.  it will however blow all current consumer SSD's out of the water. it maxes out SATA 2. once its out and if its well priced, its not hard to clone the OS onto it.  DST4ME has a link to some cloning software that is good.

you got some problems, first off your system has over 4GB of ram and xp can't run more then total of 4GB, you have no choice you have to go vista 64bit so you can take advantage of all of your system's resources otherwise you are basically cutting off an arm and a leg off your system.

Have you ever used vista? its nothing but xp with a bit of a different look, what is there to hate?

we are not sure when vertex 2 comes out but don't think vertex 1 is anything like the second version. I would wait cause there is going to be lot of fast ssds comeing out that will beat the pants off of what ever is out now, so wait and see what comes out you can upgrade your HDD1 one anytime you like.

ok here is my idea:

here you go Ticket# 270555 --- Price: $2408 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2258

thanks a lot for the advice DTS4ME, though I will change the 275 into a 295, I just want the latest video card right now, even if I don't play with high resolutions :P

And I guess I'll have to try vista out after all !

So when the vertex II will be out it will be available here ? I am guessing it's price will be extremely high though? I was thinking maybe I should stick with a velociraptor instead

OK well first a 295 is nothing but 2 x 260+ and its meant only for high resolutions cause in low resolutions you will never notice a difference between say 1 x 260+ and 1 x 295.

the 275 GTX is the latest and newest card out, and for low resolution it will do better then 1 x 260+ also if you get one 275 now and then later when you need more GPU power add another 275, then you got 2 x 275 which is better then 1 x 295, look at far cry 2 at 1280 x 1024 for example:

first keep in mind that 60fps means smooth game play at high settings so anything over 60fps and you will notice very little difference in the game playing, now lets see:

295 = 100fps

285 = 66fps

275 = 61fps

all 3 will play the game smooth at high settings but look at the price:

295 = $540

285 = $350

275 = $250

as you see the 275 has the best performance vs price. with 2 x 275 price will be $40 lower then 1 x 295 but your performance will be higher then 1 x 295.

just something to think about I'm sure you are like me, you want every bit of performance your money can buy

vertex 2 was suppose to come out already, but it has not with no word, some of us are a bit pissed as you can imagine, however there are other SSDs coming out, not as fast as vertex but faster then what is out now at least twice as fast as a veloci which used to be my favorite HDD, I have some now, but if there is a good enough SSD that is faster then I would want that as long as the price is not crazy, if we knew the prices I could give you better recommendation but right now all we have to go on is performance and no prices, which makes it difficult to tell what is worth it and what is not.

upgrading HDD and moving OS to a different HDD is real easy as long as its in the same system, so we can get our system now and wait for a good HDD to upgrade to later.

I have a nice clone guide for moving OS from one HDD to another if you ever need it, its here:

you can follow my clone guide here

I to did not like vista. but that was with it when it was first released. and has DST states it has been fixed. And I actually find my self in love with vista 64bit. (once i got used to the layout. Which is similar but not identical to xp.

You are not alone aias49, everybody I know that tried vista, once they got used to it, they love it, specially 64bit as it can do some thing faster.
