Budget:
[2300 max]

[I am buying pc 60% for gaming and 40% for use of programms for video editing and recording. I plan to do not touch my system for next 1.5 years. Games i will be playing: Crysis2, battlefield 3, metro 2033 and crysis1. I have a few questions, regarding psu and cooling system.

The psu i chose is 750w corsair. Is it enough for single video card option?

Cooling system: I am very confused about what cooling should I get for my system, Water or air. Seems like a lot of people go with noctua u12p. I want my system to run quietly and smoothly.

Thank you for your help,

LC also has fans, so going LC does not mean quiet, unless you go LC on gpu, and use a rad/fan combo that uses quiet fans.

what res you gaming at?

I am currently gaming at 1680 by 1050, but i will change to 1900 by 1200 soon.

What cooling do you recommend for my system?
Should i go with liquid and air? I am a big gamer, who plays almost 5-6 hours a day.

Ok we have a few problems.

yes a 750w is enough for a single card, however you problem is that the games you named are gonna need sli/cf to be over 30fps average, and for dual gpu setup, you gonna want the 1000w corsair.

metro at 1600 x 1200, very high settings, and 4xaa will get around 24 - 26 fps with a 570/6970, at 1900 x 1200, well lets just say forget about it.

So before we move forward we need to figure out the gpu needs for the res (we need to settle on a res also), all of that will decide what mobo and psu you should go with, and then from there we will know what kind of cooling.

Recently I went on the website, which made a review on geforce 570 single card. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/nvidia_gtx570_review/6

On metro 2033, it runs at 35 fps average. On crysis with 0xaa it runs at 67 average.

I don't see metro on that site and I believe the 570 they used was oced a good amount, and I dont' see what the game settings are.

still, if you want smooth gaming you want 60 fps average, so that when you dip to minimum it wont' be noticed or at least noticed less.

crysis with no aa and perhaps not highest settings, yes you can around 50 - 60 fps at 1900 x 1200.

take reviews with a grain of salt, none of them are 100% accurate.

35 fps is playable but it will suck comparing to 50 to 60 fps average.

anyways I'm just giving you info so that you know what you are getting into, if you still want a system that has only one gpu and you don't plan on going sli/cf now or down the road then let me know and I will config you one, that has your money better spent on parts so that you get most performance for it.

and just so you know, if you look around the forum, you will see I'm one the last people to advise sli when its not needed, but in your case, specially with metro, if you want smooth gaming, you want sli/cf, but like I said, its your pc/money, you got to go with what makes you happy, I'm just providing info.

so let me know

btw something is very wrong wih that site, it shows alien v predetor getting 54 fps with 8xaa, while other creditable sites like techpowerup is showing it doing 35 fps with 4xaa:

its pretty much the same thing in other places too:

here is crysis:

I think you are right, sli will work better then single gpu. By the way, system specs they used were:nVidia GTX570
ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Intel i7 950 @ 4GHz
6GB Mushkin Redline RAM
Corsair AX1200 PSU
Noctua NH-D14
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

I know the system specs they used but they don't say what is the game settings set at, they mention the aa, also if you look at my pics from other site I use often, you will say they pretty much are in the same range as each-other, that site is way off of what the other 2 sites agree on and show.

Ok here is my problem, to give you sli, we have to break the budget, and we have no option but to go with air cooled system, the good news is that if you don't mind the sound of the gpu fans, that you don't need LC anyways.

fi I skimp out on the choice of HDD, the price goes to:

$2481, Ticket Number: 488136

take a look at that and tell me what you think.

another option, can be that we go with one gpu, but have psu and mobo that can do sli, then you add a second 570 in a few months yourself, its real easy to do and takes 2 minutes for somebody who has never done it.

This build looks nice. I think it will be better if we can go with one gpu for now. I will add second 2-3 months later. One more thing, as you mentioned above: good news is that if you don't mind the sound of the gpu fans, that you don't need LC anyways. It means that this system is not going be quiet enough. How do you think?

95% of your pc's noise is from the gpu's fans while under full load, once those fans hit 80% and above, ladies and gentleman buckle-up your seatbelt, the plain will be taking off shortly.

to get a quiet system, not only do you need stage 4 cooling or higher, but you need to customize the radiator and fans for that stage so that LC system is quiet, otherwise a LC system that uses loud fans on the rad, is not gonna be quiet, its gonna be loud.

keep in mind sound is a matter of perception to an extent also, there are many of us that disagree over what is loud and what is not, but we all agree on one thing, gpus fans at full speed = loud.

stop wasting your money on assassin, it does not have the airflow of haf x, and has less room, and costs more money, the mobo you chose won't do sli, for dual sli you need to chose the deluxe, the ram should be DS certified, for ram it makes no difference.

based on your build above with the modifications:

the assassin it has 3 x 180mm fans, while the haf x has 3 x 200mm fans with the option of adding another to the top for a total of 4 x 200mm fans.

but I'm just giving you the info, at the end its about what you like.

for what its worth theyve just recently adjusted the price of the assassian compared to the "cheaper" cases.  I was gonna go with the haf x because it was 300 cheaper for the exact same parts now its almost equal.  Ill say it again the assassin has better temps than the haf X in everything except gpu temps by about 1c.

they both are very quiet the d14 is cooler by a few degrees but its huge and in most cases will totally cover up the ram which would be a pita if you want to get to it.  the u12p is the way to go imo

Yes the noctua are quiet, here there is still a $100 difference, haf with 4 fans will have better airflow/temps then the assassin, and it has more room in the case and drive bays are easily accessed in dual sli vs assassin.

take those reviews with a grain of salt, the temps I have seen between cases, put the haf x on top as far as case temps and gpu temps go, sometimes by a little, sometimes by more, there are many things that are different in our homes then the test environment of sites.

somebody has to show me in front of my eyes how 4 x 200mm fans can't move air as well as 3 x 180mm fans.

Not saying the assassin does not have its pros, or that its not a good case, its a good case, just not as good as some of the other cases IMHO.

lol i now understand why no one posts on this forum anymore.  No one can ever get 2 cents in without you saying NO this is how it is and you provide zero proof or anything.  Sorry to get off topic but its obvious no one can have an opinion unless its DST's.

OK, I'm just asking for proof of what you are saying also, and if you want to use sites then show me at least 3 sites, let us know the room temps and etc, at the end of the day, I'm asking how can 4 x 200mm fan not do the same or better then 3 x 180mm fans in pretty much the same area?

you stated your opinion and I'm doing the same.

Nobody post here anymore because:

1. since I'm here more often I answer the question first.

2. most times they would just be repeating what I'm saying.

ablah has a assassin, he will tell you himself that he thinks its crapped, and a bit of a pain.

you are basing your conclusion on one site's review correct? if so then that is not much of proof IMHO, and as I mentioned our room temps and cpu oc/temps and etc are all different from the rooms and environment these tests are done, so I don't see how what they did has got anything to do with our pc/room's temps and etc.

I apologize if something I said made you feel like you could not express your opinion, just having a discussion here.

Hi RiceEatin2000GT,

DST4ME is right on with his comments above. Plus, when someone disagrees or has other input, they don't hesitate to respond. This is a configuation forum and the information provided by DST4ME is usually correct and helpful to people building a system. If you disagree then offer your own information.

If you know that the Assassin case has better or equal cooling than the HAF cases then please post something to back up your comments. Maybe it would be better to start your own thread about cases than disrupt this thread.

Frank
