Topic: My New Rig Posted: 07 Jan 2010 at 4:24pm |
Greetings All,
I decided to go with DS due to the great reviews and customer service. This is my first high end (higher than usual) rig. I wanted a PC for gaming and watching Blu-Rays/DVDs. I also like to listen to music with headphones (not an audiophile) when researching on the net. Here's is my spec: 371563 System Configuration: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 (Black OPS Edition) Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1000W Digital Storm Certified (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition Highly Recommended) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer (Play Blu-Ray and Burn DVDs) Optical Drive 2: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 22x / CD-Writer 48x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card(s): 2x CrossFire Dual (ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional (PCI-Express Slot Based) Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Upgrade Chassis With LED Performance Fans (Blue) (Up to 6 Fans) Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Pre-Install Game: - No Thanks Display: Samsung 24 inch (Widescreen) (Black) (High-Performance Gaming Display) Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

I paid close to $4,000 for this setup.
Gaming resolution 1920 x 1080, but if I can go higher I would like to. Wondering if any changes should be made before the stress test begins. |

you can do 1900 x 1200 but not at max settings down the road u can upgrade i see you choose a 3x sli and the 1000watt psu so you have plenty of room to grow.
dst will prob give you a configuration depending on what stage your in you could have a minor rebuild fee for any changes. everything looks great to me but a few things... psu choose the corsair 1000 watt (quieter, more reliable better warranty) os go to pro (overkill if you need xp support pro has it) gpu not entirely necessary but you will be happier with the 5870. if you add another 5850 down the road it will be better then 1 5870. drop the upgraded fans no need the haf has great airflow add memory fan kit |

Thank you for the quick reply.
Do you think I should get the display monitor somewhere else like Newegg? Also I thought HD 2850x2 (Crossfire) would be nice. I'm new and appreciate your help. Thank you. |

change your psu.
change gpu to 5870, you are paying more for performance you won't notice with 2 x 5850. always check newegg for better prices. |

2 5850's are nearly twice as fast as 1 5870...
It only takes a mild OC for a 5850 to match a 5870, and OCing them is easy and free.

just telling it how it is.
Remember it is not SLI so if you get a 5850 now, you can add a 5850, or a 5870, or a 5970, and they will work together even at different clocks.

yes 2 x 5850 are almost twice as fast and not needed. a 5870 will due and he can get a second one if the monitor changes.

I just got a voice mail from Sarah saying that a part needed (corsair power supply) is out of stock until January 19th.
How did I get to Stage 6 with a part missing? I do appreciate the call for the delay. I've been looking out my window every time I heard a truck/van drive by. Thank you Alex for letting me know how to track the package. Definitely going to track this baby as it gets closer to me. Edit: I just got an email from Sarah as well informing me of the delay. I must say that the customer service for DS far exceeds any other electronic company I have ever dealt with before. Definitely recommending DS to friends and family and online gamers. eMail from Sarah:
"I do apologize for the delay, what had happened is that when it was on the final QA table the power supply had died out, so we have to change it out, hence the delay." I have dealt with a faulty PSU before. I am so glad that the DS team test our components before it gets shipped out to us. |

I only have a phone for a camera...so pics may come much much later.
This is the fastest PC I ever had. This is the quietest PC I ever had. Thank you all for your help. I have been running some test, but so far this is awesome. I did get some un-needed software and manuals. I got the installation disc and manual for Sapphire ATI HD 5870 (I have the XFX version). I plan to write a review after some tests. WOOT! |
