Hey guys,
I got my PC a couple days ago. I wanted to use it for a couple days before posting the review. I've own computers since the Vic20 days and upgrading about every three years and this is by FAR the most badass rig I've ever owned. Everything from the look to the performance screams awesome. I haven't pushed it too much just yet, I've only really played sw:tor and comparing the performance of the ODE vs my old XPS720 is meaningless. With my ODE the framerate is through the roof all the time, I haven't experience any lag whatsoever and the game generally looks awesome. I didn't have the patience to build myself a rig this time around and reading about the different components in the ODE convinced me it was the right choice for me. I looked around a bit before buying and DS came out on top with both the quality of the components included AND price.
Overall my experience with DS has been outstanding. I had a couple issues but nothing major that DS couldn't help with.
Here are some of the issues I ran into before moving on to the awesome pics.
1- I placed my order by phone and both my email and first name weren't recorded properly. Feels like that could of been avoided if he would of confirmed this important information. This led to not being able to log into my account for a couple days. Luckily Alex (who's been awesome) quickly fixed everything up for me once I made DS aware of my issues.
2- When I opened the case to remove the protective airbag type thing, I noticed the panels fans weren't plugged in. I had to call to confirm that 1- These were suppose to be plugged in and 2- Where I should plug them. I wish there would of been a small paper in the user manual informing me that that was normal and where to plug the fans.
3- When I first turned-on the computer. I didn't have any display... I freaked out for a second. Unplugged everything, checked that the graphics card were well plugged in and had power. When I was sure everything was good, I turned the PC back on and finally had display. Not sure what happened there, but I was a little stressed by initially not having display.
4- Once I finally got display and the PC booted, I got the Overclocking failure message... I called DS, read some posts on the forums (thanks DST4ME for the CPU-z tip) and figured everything was normal and that it happened from time to time that such a message appeared. It only happened once and the OC on the PC is rockin so far.
5- My only complaint about the PC itself and its a minor one is the noise level. When running full steam it can be pretty loud. I think I'll investigate if anything can be done for this. Suggestions?

Great review Akila.
The ODE 4 must be awesome ![]() Pics will be great when it all comes together. Side note...I agree with a small note in every build showing new customers how to plug in side fans. Been lots of questions about it.

Nice review, I have the ODE 3 I think (whichever one has 570s in SLI) and I can agree, I never have lag at 1920x1080 on the highest possible settings. However I do get some of the noise issues you have, whenever I play SC2 for a few hours in a row it starts to get a little loud.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I'm glad to see that you are happy with the the system's quality and performance. Thank you for your kind words about our prompt service as well. I appologize for any incovenince that some of the hicups you had to encounter, and I'm glad that you were able to get them resolved.
I apprechiate your feedback as it allows us to constantly improve Digital Storm and our products for our customers. I am going to share your review with our team and we'll definitely see what we can do to improve our product. I agree with your statement about the side panel fans, and we'll look into a solution for this shortly. In regards to the noise, you may be able to quiet it down further by slowing the fan speeds down. The first step would be to find out where the noise is coming from, it may be the CPU cooling system, if it is, we can either send you fan mounts which can slow the speeds down to quiet them, or, you may even have some of those black resistor based connectors in the accessories box to slow the fans down. Feel free to contact us and we can help you. For the photos, if you can re-size them to a maximum width of 800px, that would be perfect for the forums. Once you get the photos up, we'll go ahead and move your thread to the "Customer Reviews" section.

Hi Akila,
You have three GPUs running along with a CPU cooler that runs noisy under load. So you should expect a bit of noise. It is all relative. If you were expecting it run like a Dell or HP that you see in a store then I understand the noise. If you have run high performance SLI GPUs before or a computer with a few 120mm fans and the noise is way more than that, you may have a problem. I really think it is just a high performance system like yours does have some noise associated with it at heavy loads. I bet it is pretty quite when you are not gaming? Sorry guys, the team has been super busy, I let them know. They have to make a quote image to move over that's all. They've been slammed with a new upcoming product that we're launching.

upon some reflection i realized that 6 gigs of vram is pretty awesome but i was wondering about the reliability of the amd 7970's are like do they have problems like the gtx 590's or are the equivalent to the 580's. i was also wondering about the reasoning of the change in graphics cards. is it a considerable upgrade to the triple sli 570 at 1.2 gigs each....please i would lie to know thank you all again for any response

sinner.mcmanus,
Looks like you have a lot to consider! Since this is part of another customer's review thread, you would probably get a lot more views for your question if you started your own thread in the configuration forum. Here it is: ![]() http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_topics.asp?FID=3 |

Hey FrankW,
Yes it is pretty quiet when not pushing it. I've kind of gotten used to it and it's fine now... It was so much noisy than my old rig that it was a little jarring at first. As Alex pointed out most of the noise comes from the CPU fan. I've tried changing the speed on it and immediately the noise was reduced a lot... But considering the CPU is overclocked, I am not taking any chances at lowering the speed of the fan until I do further research regarding ideal temperature, etc...

Hi Akila,
Glad to hear that it was just unexpected noise. With a stage 2 OC on the 3930K I would not be turning down the fan on your CPU. Those 6 cores run hot and you don't want it to over heat. Of course you can experiment while monitoring your CPU temps as you reduce its fan RPMs under load. If it was me I would just operate at the highest fan speed and live with the noise. Frank |
