Hello DS! I was about to buy a computer from another company that I wont mention here. Luckily before pressing BUY I heard about Digital storm and their great reviews. I need your help!
![]() Budget: $2000 or less, before tax. This price is including everything, gaming monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and headphones. Expectations: Good FPS while gaming, good sound while gaming (I play CS:S and good sound gives you a huge advantage with footsteps and enemy positioning). Usage: 100% gaming! Want to play at 1900x1080. Special Needs: I don't know which gaming monitor to get, or which keyboard and mouse to get. I heard the Sound Blaster Titanium HD is the best sound card to get for gaming right now. What do you think? $2000 may be too low for all of these things (for example, gaming sound card, monitor, mouse and keyboard can increase price a lot). If this is the case, then forget about the speakers, mouse, keyboard, and monitor, but keep the sound card. Exclude these from the list and keep the original budget ($2000). I can wait a few weeks for another paycheck to spend money on the rest. So far from my research I found a good sound card and good headset: Creative Titanium HD sound card and Audio Technica AD700 headset. Luckily the sound card is an option here at DS, and the headset costs about $90. What do you guys think? ![]() |

thanks for the reply. i see your rep on this forum and it seems you really know what you're talking about!
CS:S and similar games (like HL2, DOD, source games) are all i play. i came up with this plan here: ticket 591508, $1516 all i did was choose a level 2 crusader and update the sound card ASUS VH242H monitor, $180 Audio Technica AD700 headphones, $90 that totals to $1786, so i still have room to find a new mouse and keyboard. i decided against getting speakers because i will be using the headphones for gaming. this is a gaming pc after all. what do you think? should i get this one? one review for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 1GB showed that it got a min fps of 31 at BFBC2 at max settings 1920x1200, so i think source based games should be fine. |

LOL ok first I'm a customer not a rep, this way you know what I'm saying is not because I want to sell you something, my motive for being here is to pass on the facts to other customers like yourself, so that you can make your final decision based on the facts, cause there is lot of bad info on the net.
Now as far as benchmarks go, you can't really go by benchmarks as they don't represent our pcs, also not every site is creditable, you have to know what to look for, compare all hardware and drivers and make sure they are the same, which most times they are not. also benchmarks normally show average, and you have to look at aa settings, for example: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at 1900 x 1200 with 8x aa, a 560ti can get average of 47 fps, but 560 can get average of 42 fps. Now all of that will be different for bf3, a 560 will cry at the res with bf3 and will not be enough. now if you want to go with a 560 get out ode zero ode zeroits much better priced for the hardware you are getting in your config but you have to add the sound card and anything else yourself, but that is extremely easy to do. next step up is the ode 1 with a 570 and 2600K for $1499, you should look at that also. let me know what you think, keep in mind future performance and etc as you choose a pc, don't just get what is doing good today, how is it gonna do tomorrow and the next day and the next year and etc, a 2600K has ht, the 2500k does not, so you will be missing out for example on win7's ht performance. |

hehe i meant rep as in reputation, as in, people seem to say u know what your talking about around here
![]() you have a good point... maybe i should save up some more money and make my computer future proof.... i would LOVE to be able to play games like BF3 with a nice monitor at full settings, have multiple high end graphics cards in my pc, etc... here's the thing... i can spend $2000 right now, or i can wait. i save about $700 dollars every month that i can spend on a computer... maybe i should wait a little bit until i can build a FUTURE PROOF machine? like, maybe you can give me some ideas for machines that i can upgrade as i save more money (add more video cards, more powerful video cards, sound cards, etc)... and also continue to upgrade for the next few years if possible. thank you so much for your help so far. you have changed my thinking when buying a comp, but i still need your (and any other members who want to chime in) help ![]() |

Well there really is no future proof, we are talking about staying powerful as long as possible, if you want a custom sli rig its gonna be around $2800, but it will have everything, ssd, sli, 2600k, great mobo, 1050hx psu (7 year warranty and it will support sli whatever), etc.
so based on what you said couple of months, or take a good look at ode 3, which is for $2339, and it has most of the stuff. or we can go the upgrade route, but to be honest if you can save $700 a month, I would just wait couple of months and come back and get something like this: Ticket Number: 591651 or ode 3. You can take out the ssd and one 570 out of that but still you gonna be over $2100, then you can add the ssd and another 570 later yourself. either way with that mobo and psu you can upgrade gpus in 2 years or so and have a pc that feel brand new in games. we are here to help so ask as many questions as you like. as for the rep comment sorry about that

Question about that $2800 custom config: will a sound card fit in there? the sound card i want requires a pci express x1. there will be two slots free in the computer for the sound card, but i'm not sure if they will actually fit near the video cards (the video cards look really big in videos i've seen).
will it fit? |

the deluxe mobo is chosen so that in sli you have many pci lanes open.
