Hey, I came about this site looking around for the best company for custom built computers and the reviews here seem amazing. Before I was considering an Alienware system, but I think I am going with DS now. Anyways, I need a good config for gaming and watching movies (regular dvds mainly, not blu-ray). I will probably go with a 22 inch monitor with 1680X1050 resolution, but am up for suggestions on this as well. I was considering the LG W2286L as I can't afford an ips panel monitor and want a good response time and better than average image quality. As far as games go, I play DDO and WoW, and am considering playing Age of Conan or Warhammer Online when I get a new computer. Diablo 3 will be the main game I will be playing when it comes out though. I'd like to get a sound card, but am up for suggestions if it doesn't fit in my budget. I have Logitech Z-2300 THX certified 200-watt 2.1 speakers that I bought last year and plan on using on this system. My budget is around $1800-$2000 without the monitor and can only spend around $200-$300 for a monitor. If possible I would like a build that is upgradable in the future, possible second video card, but again if it doesn't fit in my budget I am open for suggestions. Mainly wanting something that will hold up for 4-5 years and can handle games like Diablo 3 and Age of Conan on max settings. Thanks in advance!

Thanks DST4ME, looks about like the build that I had figured. One more thing before I place my order. Does the monitor I picked out seem decent or do you have any recommendations. I know you're a die-hard ips panel fan from reading other posts, but are there any tn panels you'd recommend? Looking for something in the 22-24 inch line for around 200-300 dollars. Also, will I have THX quality sound with onboard sound? I know from what I've read that there's not much difference in sound quality with onboard except to the audiophile.

if you don't use a sound card now then you are gonna be just fine.
but if you should decide on a sound card down the road, make sure its compatible with win7 64bit. I'm not that familiar with tn panels, so I can't tell you, I assume going with one of the ones DS offers is a safe bet, youc an always check and see if you will save by going to newegg. |

I had one more question about overclocking. Will it significantly decrease the life of my CPU or its stability? I figure for most of the games I play overclocking isn't necessary, but I wouldn't mind having it if the risks aren't that great. Thanks again for your help.

actually oc makes the biggest difference in everything, including games, for some a bit less but for some more.
DS does moderate ocing so your cpu should last you at least 8 years if not longer, and it won't pass DS's test if its not stable. |

I haven't placed my order yet, and have shopping around on newegg for monitors. Found a 24" one that fits the bill. If I go to a 1920X1080 resolution, will I need to upgrade to an ATI 5870 for max settings on my games?

I did a little research and found that the 5850 should be just as good as the 5870 at 1920 X 1080 with the specific games I play, so I went ahead and placed my order. Thanks again.

yes for 1900 x 1200 best option is 5870 but if the 5850 is doing the job for those particular games you play then thats a good choice.
