Budget: $1600 if all possible
Expectations: My Expectations would be to run Warlords Of Draenor, BF4, Diablo 3 and other titles at near maxed settings on Ultra if possible. Usage: Gaming / General Usage Special Needs: No special Needs, already have extra stuff from a desktop if I can use them. Saved Ticket #: 1239263 Something around this specs Specifications: 17" preferred but can drop to a 15" if I can save $ and put it else where. I prefer an i5 or i7 Laptop 8GB of Ram unless I can squeeze 16GB 1TB HDD & maybe a 750GB HDD Would like a Blu Ray Player but can always go with External Thanks...Gamer2k1 |

Try this Configuration 1240745. It comes in at $1588 with another $25 off for the current promo. It's a very similar build to your Triton configuration.
Based on your budget, you won't be able to go for the Harker (my preferred chassis at this time) or Krypton (my current chassis) 17.3" models, so you'll need to go with the Forbus. I bumped your Thermal Compound up to Premium as you want as much cooling as you can get. However, I had to take it down to one drive and I couldn't make it an SSD in order to keep you under budget. You can add an SSD later down the road; that's an easy upgrade for a laptop. You really want an SSD for gaming and everything else as it's the single best upgrade that you can add to any PC that doesn't have one, so if you can push your budget, you might want to go for a larger, single SSD right now and forgo the platter drive. The Forbus doesn't have a built-in optical drive, so I'd buy your own Blu-ray external drive as it will likely be cheaper that way. Keep in mind that most external Blu-ray drives require two USB ports to power them properly, so you may need a external, powered (AC adapter) USB hub depending on how many USB devices you expect to connect. The Forbus only has 4, 3 USB 3.0 and 1 eSATA/USB 3.0. |

Thanks for the response Roykirk, that build looks solid however can I upgrade that stock 750gb to a 1TB reg drive? Then perhaps add a SSD later and keep the 1TB or would that not be possible?
As far as a USB Hub I'll get one much later, since I'll have to get a tsa approved laptop bag but that will be later on. Thanks Edited by Gamer2k1 - 16 Jul 2015 at 9:49am |

Sure can, I think Roykirk was trying to keep you within budget, but changing the HDD to the 1TB is just a few dollars more. That laptop has room for 2x 2.5" drives, so adding an SSD later on is simple enough.
Good Luck. ![]() |

Just thinking.... double check with DS about drive bays. Sometimes they take a single hdd or two ssd. There's a thickness limitation. Depends what drives they use.

Certainly, although the answer can be complex. Most laptops have 4 SO-DIMM (RAM) slots, but two of them are not easily accessible, so you want to make sure that the 8GB is a single SO-DIMM, making it easy to add a second 8GB SO-DIMM to the second, easily-accessible slot. If you think that you will possibly upgrade to 32GB of RAM in future, just keep in mind that you can do it yourself, but depending on your expertise with disassembling and reassembling laptops, it may be difficult and you might want it done professionally. |

Good advice to confirm with DS customer service about drive bay space, but you should have room to add an SSD since the default configuration of the Forbus comes with an SSD and platter drive. |

Thanks Roykirk, I don't see myself needing honestly 32GB Ram maybe max might be 16gb Ram for my usage, as far as disassembling & reassembling I have no experience there.

Not much required to add one extra 8GB SO-DIMM. On every laptop I've owned over the past decade and others that I've repaired, two of the 4 slots are accessed from the bottom of the chassis behind either a panel or by removed the bottom, neither of which should prove difficult at all. Just remove some screws and voila! 16GB is really all you need these days, even if you're a heavy gamer. I could go to 32GB on my Krypton, but definitely haven't seen the need yet. |

Roykirk since I know nothing related to Laptop memory don't I need to replace both the existing 8gb to make it a total of 16gb? I mean I've seen dual channel SO-DIMM's.

It's going to depend on the details that the DS people give you. It's likely it will be a single 8GB SO-DIMM, so you would only need to purchase a matching one later to add to it. DS uses name-brand parts, so finding a matching one later shouldn't be too much of an issue. However, you definitely want to confirm all this with DS. I'm speaking from what I know of the Krypton I purchased in spring of 2014 and I don't know the RAM and Mobo details of other models. The Forbus uses the Intel HM87 Express Chipset, but I'm not finding any info that says whether it's dual-channel or not. I suspect not, but can't say for sure. |
