Hey Everyone. Ive been shopping around and trying to figure out Where I can find a flexible build for a new computer. I need it for goofing off when I should be doing homework My budget for the computer itself is $2000. I Can go a bit over that but Trying to keep it within reason. I'm shopping for a new monitor as well and I think I'm gonna go with a 1920X1200. Torn between HP and Dell. I think Ill spend the little bit more and get Dell. Mostly I'm going to be playing Starcraft 2, Dcu online, Unreal tourney 3, Dawn of war 2, Star Wars ToR, Left for dead 2, team fortress 2, Crysis 2 and Call of Duty black ops. Im a gaming nut and it shows. Maybe some battlefield bad company 2. Ill be doing some light video editing on it but It doesn't have to be the fastest in the world I'm a patient man. Its going to be in my room and it can get warm in here so I need the best airflow possible. Id like to stick with either the Assassin or HAF-X case if at all possible as well. I want to be able to upgrade later on down the line to a SSD since I know I cant swing one in this earlybuild but that's what XMAS is for. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The HAF 932 actually has better air flow than either of those, and is cheaper.

Just make sure to clone your 1tb drive to the SSD and bump it down to storage when you get the SSD then your set to go with all the games you listed or closes to set with your budget :P

this is what you want, ssd is no a neccessity and you can add it later, if you add 3 more GB of ram you have to reset your oc, you don't have to do anything to add a ssd later, therefore this makes sense and has more options for you:
Here you go Ticket# 412260 --- Price: $2022 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2022 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Seagate/Hitachi/Western Digital (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Install/Test Game: FREE: Hot-selling game with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or above graphics card Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Limited Warranty with Life-Time Customer Support this can handle your res and can also handle another gpu down the road. if you don't think you will ever need cf down the road then change the psu to a 750w corsair and that will save you more money. In a few month buy a ssd and use that for HDD1 for OS/Games/Apps, and push the 1TB to HDD2 and use it for storage. its real easy you just clone the 1TB to the ssd,you can follow my clone guide here Edited by DST4ME - 05 Jun 2010 at 1:26pm |

Hmm Wow thanks for the Suggestions. I like all of them But I think Imma go with DST's build. The only thing I think Im going to change is going to be from ATI to NVIDIA. Not knocking ATI I just know NVidia and would rather stay with what I know. This is what Ive built Based off of that:
Ticket Number: 412267This is still within reason and if I want to go haf x its only $42 more still amazingly within reason and better than Ive seen anywhere else. Thanks for the cload guide DST Im gonna book mark it so when I do get the SSD Im not loosing my mind to get it done. |

i like dsts build but i would make one big change
drop the hdd to 500 (especially if you're going to add another one)
swap out the 5870 for a 480, price difference = $30,
benchmark difference in dx10 = meh
benchmark difference with tesselation and dx11 = 480 smacks the 5870 around.
so right NOW they are close, but as games progress in the next 1-2 years the 480 is looking much better than the 5870
i would drop the psu to 750, save you another $80, im a big supporter of swapping in the newest cards instead of "upgrading" to sli, but if you want to keep sli as an option, keep the bigger power supply
heres a link to my idea for you, price $1922
*edit* since you just now posted basically the same thing, im glad to see we agree, as far as the extra cost for 500GB to 1000GB and 750w to 1000w, thats all preference, i was just trying to keep your price down, but if yuo have the cash go for it! Edited by !ender_ - 05 Jun 2010 at 1:52pm |

$30 more for a GTX 480? should be $100.00 and yes those 6 FPS will really be noticed for $100.00 |

Hmmm yours looks good. I could do that I already have a 1tb external drive that Im using to store my videos on. an extra 500 is more than enough for other stuff. Im going to drop down to that and the 750 corsair psu. That saves me some cash for an IPS monitor instead lol. Question though would you think that 80 gb ssd be enough for the games I listed. I have others as well such as torchlight, the orange box, beat hazard, and microsoft office. Just curious. figure if I dont ask I wont ever know. |

Many games don't benefit all that much from an SSD. So the idea is, just load the ones you use the most, and use your HDD for the rest. Office would get a big boost.
(Aside) Ya know, I go back aways, and I have to tell you it amuses me that we're discussing how to shave 18 seconds off that start-up screen. Back in the day, it was 3 minutes to reload a save when you screwed up. Gaming was painful.

what i said was
---------------
-drop the hdd to 500 (especially if you're going to add another one)
+swap out the 5870 for a 480
=price difference = $30
------------------------
i added text decoration to make things easier to read.
as far as the fps difference
heres dx9/10 benches
more if you arent a tom fanatic like i am
and like i said, dx 11 and tesselation is where you will see the differences, so its more about preparing for the future Edited by !ender_ - 05 Jun 2010 at 4:45pm |

The difference with Dx11 games so far has been next to nothing.. maybe in future games, but that is not 100% for sure.. |

that looks good to me, only reason I didn't give you the 480 was because you need the 1250w psu to go sli in the future but ati 5870 needs only the 1000w corsair to go cf in the future, trying to stay within your budget and give you option to be able to go sli/cf in the future, the 5870 and the 1000w was the way to go, however I'm an nvidia man myself and if you like the 480 I can't blame you but if you want to be able to go sli 480 in the future then go with teh 1250w psu, if you know yoyu won't go sli in the future then a 750w corsair is all you need with either 5870/480. other then the above I think you got a winner there. |

Thanks alot for the build Ideas Going play around a bit more then Move forward from there. I definitly will have to add the 1250 PSU. Id rather have it and not need it incase I change my mind down the line about sli then need it and not have it. Thanks again everyone.

Good idea, remember go with the 1250w only if you gonna go with the 480, as I said for 5870 cf all you need is a 1000w.
Our pleasure and good luck |
