I am looking to build my next gen computer. I haven't upgraded in a few years and with newer games coming out I will need something more then I have now.

I'm really looking forward to Battlefield 3 and want something to really make it run at maximized settings.

My budget is around 3,000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is the native resolution of the monitor you gonna be gaming at?

For my last 3 computers I have been using a ViewSonic G220FB 22in @ 1600x1200 Native.

I also have an Asus MW201 that is set to 1680x1050. Doesn't say Native next to any of the supported resolutions.

Im good with using either or, whichever would prove better with the up an coming rig.

1600x1200 is the native res but 2048x1536 is what it says recommended. Id also like to make sure I can upgrade to a larger wide screen later. Would ODE 1 still be a good choice?

When your in the Nvidia Control Panel it says Native by 1600x1200 but recommended by the 2048x1536.

As far as upgrading I don't even know where to start. I haven't bought a new gaming monitor for years. I'm not sure exactly what to look for.

Do I want low ms? Is 1920x1080 still the go to resolution?

I'm buying this new PC specifically because my current PC is too old to start gaming when Battlefield 3 is released and I really want the game to run smooth.

1. response time is a bs number, its there to fool you and does not represent the true response time of the monitor, there is no real way of truly finding what response time is, the closest to it is white to white but you don't see that, you see grey to grey or black to black cause they give small numbers to fool users but they don't mean anything, there are different methods to get these numbers also, and each will give a different number as results, therefore you can even compare one to the other, cause we don't know what method was used for which, and even if we did, still GTG or BTB don't mean anything.

2. contrast ratio is also bs number.

Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity.

what would the budget be? IPS panels have higher cost due to their superior quality/clarity.

for that I would recommend you wait for the highend platform to arrive in oct/nov, cause for that res you are best off with dual sli and option to go tri sli, the current p67/68 platform can't do tri sli correctly.

I don't understand how all the mix and matching goes so im sorry for being so indecisive. Just want to make sure I get the right PC that will run games how I want them to run.

I can budget 3.5k to cover the PC and monitor. I think I would be happy with 1920x1080 although would I want 1920x1200 for gaming? Either way, im thinking a 23 or 24 inch monitor would be sufficient.
