Budget: $1,000-$1,700
Will be using the mouse, keyboard, speakers, and monitor from my old computer.

Have TWO Western Digital 1.5GB USB 2.0 external hard drives

I have a wirreless network, store lots of movies on hard drives, with one hooked to the computer and other one hooked to my Blue Ray Player, and watch them on my HD TV set, as well a streaming Netflix videos .My basement computer area is kind of dusty, humid in summer.

Plan to do some moderate gaming, store/burn movies and music.

I have been looking at the ODE V2 LEVEL 1 AND 2 series computers.....

Don't really plan to overclock, at least not more than is very stable, from the factory,.and capable of with air cooling.Don't know if I should wait for Windows 8 this fall.I am in no rush, and can wait til the holiday season if necessary.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks, Dave.

Bostondave welcome to the forums.

For us to make a good sugestion of which one is better for you we really need to know the resolution of the monitor you will be using.  The higher the resolution the more graphics power you need.

That said here is a link to a really good review covering both the HD 7850 (ODE 1) and HD 7870 (ODE 2). http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148.html

In the reveiw it shows the performance of each card at difference resolutions and settings for a wide range of games.

I hope this helps to get you started.
