Hello All
I am new to this forum and to pc gaming and am seeking advice. I am an avid platform gamer(ps3, xbox360 etc....)and have been considering a system from Digitalstorm to begin my adventure into pc gaming. From what I have read online, pc gaming and troubleshooting hardware, software, and compatability issues seem to go hand in hand. I do not have experience troubleshooting computer issues. Is it worth it???? Is the pc gaming experience worth all the hours that you spend fixing stuff??? Please provide your opinion on this, I would sincerly appreciate it. |

As a console gamer (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) and a PC gamer I can tell you, it's not worth it. Run from the PC before it consumes your life!! I'm just kidding. It's worth it if you have the patience and the money. A console costs you about $300 - $500 and lasts for a good year or two. A PC costs $900 - $1400 (to run the current games) and lasts you three to five years. The PC will also require upgrades in this time, depending on what you started with. So it can get quite pricey in the long run.
The games make all the difference though don't they? You'll never see Crysis on a console, and you're not very likely to see a smooth running MMO on the consoles either. (FFXI no included) Real time strategy games are made for the PC, if you've tried them on consoles give them another shot on the PC. A mouse and keyboard makes a world of difference. I also prefer the FPS scene on the PCs much more than on consoles. Not only is the online community usually better, but the world of mods that are open to you can keep a game playable for years. (I'm STILL playing Oblivion) The troubleshooting on a PC can be quite intimidating. Once you know the basics though, you'll be able to get by on your own or with help from forums such as this. If you order from us, you'll get life time tech support. So you'll always have us to go to for help as well. In summary, it all depends on what you can afford to go with and what you enjoy playing. If you have the money, give it a shot. PC's have a rather good resale value. So worst case scenario, you'll make a good chunk of your money back. |

Well it's the same as console gaming..
If you're unlucky, you going to end up with a console that's broken and then you send it back for a fix. With a PC, you have the option of fixing it yourself with the assistance of people on the phone and forums. Crysis is actually being ported to console. ![]() Edited by skyR - 01 Feb 2008 at 8:45pm |

What!? Really!? That's awesome! ![]() I forgot to mention something rather important on my earlier post. The graphics with PCs can get much better than those on a console. My PC will best the 360 any day. The PS3... Well, that's another matter. Edited by Dashuu - 01 Feb 2008 at 8:52pm |

If you don't have experience trouble shooting PC then you'll learn real quick
To get the best gaming experience a true gamer will need both : consoles and PC
For a first PC i would advice you getting something that's simple to run and maintain : No SLI, RAID,.....etc....

I've never been a "console gamer", LOL, as I cut my teeth on PC gaming. I've always seen console gaming for 12 years old and younger. I just can't see grown men gaming on consoles. That's just me and my warped outlook though.
I love spending money and I love spending money on PC equipment. I love having a huge black box sitting to my right filled with enough power to melt down my brain at any moment, feeling the surge of heat rising toward my body as the GPU powers into the zone while Dominator RAM sticks bleed raw data transfer and the hum of fans and hard drives play an almost harmonious melody in sync with the pace of the game play. Yes, I revel in the atmosphere that is the true arena where man and machine perform together as one; where the scent of thermal paste and silicon permeate the air and you know your part of the resounding techno-primordial cry of the almighty PC. I guess you can say I like PC gaming. |

I've done both. Some games are better on a console, some are better on a PC. "Arcade" style games are just better on a console. Platforms, racing games, fighting games... pretty much any style of game you might have paid a quarter to play once upon a time is where the console shines. Unlike Ed, I got my start in electronic gaming in the local arcades playing Pacman, Pole Position, Missile Command and many others. I love the arcade feel consoles bring into the home.
I also love PC gaming. This is where a game can move past a simple move of a joystick or button press to provide some real depth. Games like Morrowind are simply better on the PC than they could ever have been on the Xbox. Oblivion is a bit more of a tossup that way, since it feels like a console port to me. Games like the Playstation Ace Combat series are good fun, but can't compare to a well executed flight simulator IMO. I would liken playing console games to reading a magazine or comic book, whereas playing on a PC is more like reading a novel. I think they are both fun, and can both provide a rewarding experience, but one requires a bit more effort and maybe because of this, feels that much more satisfying. |

I will admit, I am a bit biased; a biased due to the lack of quality time spent in the console arena. I could accurately say that I'm a bit ignorant to the console world but it's been because of a lack of desire to dive into it. Well, I actually really don't have much time to play in either arena these days, with my work and all. But, I have my moments of relapse when I can find time to enter into it and then I forget I'm married and spend too much time running through levels and... yadda, yadda, yadda.
Gaming = Doghouse (Sometimes I like my doghouse) |

PC gaming > Console gaming
EXCEPT soul caliber 2 for XBOX. That game is/was better than the invention of chocolate ice cream.

First off I want to say thanks for all the replies I have recieved.
I am still unfortunately facing my cunundrum of pc
pitfalls. I suppose I will have to take my chances. There
are many games on the pc that I would like to play that are not on the
platform systems. This is the allure for me. I need to
decide if I want to spend time troubleshooting issues since I am so
used to platforms(put in disc and play). Although to be fair, my
xbox360 did die with the red ring of death syndrome after only two
years of playtime!!!!but MS did send me a new remanufactured system for
the inconvience. My wife is insisting I just buy a pc and quit
torturing myself with this issue..
yikes

Oh yes! You do have the green to buy, so it seems. Now, I will ask you what I have asked others in this forum.
Are you a Mexi-can, or are you a Mexi-can't? DISCLAIMER: Under no circumstances is this question intended racially or personally directed at any demographic, specifically Latino. This is designed to be a humorous and witty play on words that draws the lightheartedness of the reader out to begin a banter-like communique back and forth ending up with those who participate having a good laugh and possible drinks together after our breaths have been caught from the laughter. If no laughter takes place, I cannot be responsible for the demeanor of the reader and what emotional state he or she may experience while discerning the wit behind the word. I'd better clip this and save it away. I'll probably need it later.

You never know in this day and age. I'm still waiting to hear from your lawyer on that hole you inherited from me. On second thought, you should be hearing from my lawyer for not taking the hole. |

"Big sigh"... here we go. I'm from South Texas, San Antonio to be exact, and although I'm Caucasian, I am partial to the Tejano culture since I was born and raised in this city. I've spent many days and nights across the boarder partying as an adolescent and shopping in the towns as an adult. I enjoy the melodies of Tejano music and like the wisdom of the Hispanic people. With that said, My quote is actually from the movie "Once Upon a Time In Mexico." http://www.mexican-or-mexicant.co.uk/ Johnny Depp says this line to a bandito and it just stuck with me from then forward. The quote referring to whether or not you have balls or not. Considering this was in Mexico and the quote was directed to a bandito, the question was whether you are a Mexican, or a Mexican't. Now, all who read these forums from now until the end of time, or at least until this forum is gone, should know what I mean when I ask the question, "Are you a Mexican, or are you a Mexican't?" The "Disclaimer" is a joke because another member here almost took offense to my comment as he is Hispanic. Of course, my intention is not to offend anyone with that remark, but if you are offended, please go watch Def Comedy Jam or Dee Dee Dee Dee Robert Mancia, and then ask yourself... AM I FREAKING SERIOUS? It's all in fun and now I will stop explaining myself and go back to thinking of another borderline witty and humorous remark that will catch someone's sensitive nerve. I'll probably just keep the disclaimer. Edited by EdH63 - 03 Feb 2008 at 12:01am |
