So I want to get a brand new computer as I currently have a computer in its last days of life. I am an avid gamer and want to be able to play most games on pretty high settings as well as making sure that I wont have to go out and upgrade the computer in a few months. I'm new to the whole customizing computers thing and I just don't know what to pick or anything. I have a budget of $3000 and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

does that 3k include a monitor? keyboard mouse etc? working on build atm...
here we go
$2580
This is really all you could use right now for gaming. my suggestion is to pocket the extra 500 you would drop on an additional 480 and save it until you actually feel any restriction from your 480, then spend it on a 2nd or just switch in a brand new card, either way you will be saving yourself a bundle of cash

Just made this. It is under your budget and should be great for whatever resolution you play on. It has a great SSD. There is some money left over in case you want to get speakers. The X-540 is for 88.99 and then you can get an Imperator for 79.99.

Wow thanks for the quick response guys! The $3000 does include the mouse and keyboard and I do need a new screen but I know next to nothing about resolutions so I'm not sure about that.

with my set up you have tons of room left for monitor/mouse/kb
i wouldnt use anything wireless if you game seriously becuase it can be imprecise
pretty much mainstream res is becoming 1920*1080, if you go with 1x 480 you will be good at that res and higher, its really about budget and preference. i play at 1280x1024. its not breathtaking, but it does the job quite well, no complaints
also keep in mind that resolution and screen size are NOT the same thing. if you want a large monitor, make sure you check the resolution before buying Edited by !ender_ - 14 Jun 2010 at 3:25pm |

!ender's build is primo. He has included an upsized power supply for getting a second video card later. If that's not you, you can downsize to the Corsair 750.
I can highly recommend the HP ZR24w monitor. 24" diagonal screen at 1920x1200 resolution. This is an IPS panel which gives it certain advantages over the more common TN technology, not the least of which is 16.7 million colors. may be had for ~ $400, and is well worth it. Full review here:

Thanks for the help guys. I am pretty much decided on what I am getting but I am still undecided on the screen. I am trying to keep it as close to $3000 as possible so that kinda limits my choice on screens. I might get the Acer 22 inch screen but what do you guys think? |
