Im on a limited budget of around 1,200 (dont make fun
)Ive got a 22in monitor never really found a res that I like specially on my crap tastic system Ive never had a good system, got an old dell that ive upgraded as much as possible. I have Keyboard Mouse Monitor cd/dvd-rw drive 150gb hd that is on it way out I dont play alot of games really. Mainly WoW and BF2/2142 and some RaindowSix Vegas 2. So I dont need a super duper system. I was hoping I could find somethig that would run those games smooth. Ive shopped around alot and all place have said this was the best place. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

thats a tough budget, why not save more and have a system you can upgrade thru the years?
otherwise you will get a minimal system that can't be upgraded for the next say 5 years. for 600 to 800 more you can get a system that you can upgrade and have it be a great system for years. |

Hi Av1420,
DST4ME is right, but...don't become completely discouraged.
I plan on buying a new rig myself next month, and though my budget is higher, $1200 would buy a serious upgrade from my "craptastic system".
I guess you saw the different configurations DS has listed?
For the games you mentioned, you don't need a bleeding edge system.
There is a Core Duo 3.0 system starting at $1000. That gives you some room to upgrade the RAM, or maybe a larger PSU (to allow more options for upgrading graphics cards).. Add more RAM later as it's relatively cheap and easy to do.
For a 22" monitor you want your resolution set at 1680 X 1050.

Thx any suggestions on what to stick togther?
I have an 8400gs card and fares well, but I think my current dell PSU is barely enough to run it. Its got something like 18amp on the 12v rail is a sad little computer. I know the budget suck but that its, im a just out of college basically living week to week. This is my gift to myself, so im trying to bang for my buck since im really not looking for a killer system. More of a starter system, that I will prob use for a few year untill I get a good IT job that I went to school for and can afford to drop a couple grand on a system |

looks OK but you can't really upgrade it later.
you need to up your ram, psu, your anteck is small and will not let you upgrade to bigger cards. and you got no oc so you are stock with the speed of 3.0 instad of 3.8Ghz |

I figured the PSU would be sufficient for my needs it pulls like 45amp on the 12v rail I thought that should be more than enough for a mid range graphics
Is there a major size differnce in the vid cards? I know the 9800 series are like 10.5 inches long. Ive seen one 9800gtx+ in antec 900 before, but there was only like an inch of clearence between the end of the card and the 5.25 bay Would I be giving myself a bottleneck if I backed down to 4gb of 800mhz ram as opposed to the 2gb of the faster? |

Here's a configuration that has a different case, a PSU that will support 2 cards (for later upgrade), and some faster RAM.
You will be able to add more RAM later. Depending on the motherboard, you may be able to upgrade to a higher RAM speed as well, and a faster CPU.
DS will be able to tell you about your mb capabilities.
It's $1300 because I put in a nice graphics card - before any instant savings DS gives you.

off topic
since I have some people here that know alot more about computers than I do I saw a video other day of a guy that cooled his computer by submerging it in mineral oil. Its a cool concept, but would that not basically kill any kind of warranty? Seems like it would be a major task to deal with a defective part or something like that |

DOH!
I really meant to have 4GB RAM in there, and I don't know how "no windows installed" got selected! Total error there.
The rest looks pretty good, IMHO. Given the OP's needs I thought the E8400 would be fine. It's a nice processor that should satisfy for some time.
There are many folks here who have more knowledge/experience than me.
I certainly don't want to mess up the thread, or give out confusing, or bogus advice.
