Okay so.. I'm not super tech savvy or anything but I get the idea of how everything works pretty well but I'm just curious on what options I have given an 500$ budget on upgrading. I know I want to upgrade to an 8core CPU and I feel like I should do that first before my GPU upgrade.. I'm not sure where at 1050 stands but my games seem to run fine and look pretty good but with the new systems coming out and new games going 4K res soon I want to be as close as possible if I can? Any help would be great. I do have about 550$ saved up for upgrades and I am able to do them myself.
I was thinking of going Amd Ryzen 7 1700 or should I aim higher? I hope this information below will give some idea to what I'm running better than I can explain it. P.S. I also never over-clocked cpu or gpu ever and not sure exactly how it works or the best way to go about it. Im not an amd fan so I'm not sure if you can upgrade cpu or not.
How much ram do you have? The higher the res the less cpu comes into play and the gpu becomes more of a factor. You should only worry about going 4k if you have a 4k monitor otherwise you are wasting your money. |

Again I'm no amd expert but after a quick look I think you won't be able to upgrade your cpu, looks like different socket which means new mobo

Really? What makes you think I can't change my CPU? Fan has the clamps and I was told I would be able to when I built it so I hope so 😂. Right now my my ram is 8gb it would be a bummer to have to get a new mobo if I did I'd probably go intel anyway from what I've been reading

Well im no amd expert so maybe I'm wrong but your cpu is socket amd3 new cpu is amd4, if those 2 are compatible then you can upgrade, I'm assuming they are not.
I would go 16gb ram, that would be my first update but see about the cpu first. |

I looked into it as well and looks like this may be the case. So I guess a mobo first will be the first thing 😂 Any suggestions?

So Ryzen is am4 then correct? That was actually something that didn't cross my mind at all. I can probably atleast work in an amd fx8350 pretty sure that's AM3 if I'm not mistaken.. wouldn't overheat this mobo would it?

If the socket match your current cooler should do the job, worst case scenario you get a new cooler. But no it wouldn't overheat the mobo, its the cpu itself that would overheat.

Awesome. I just want to stay on par with consoles until I'm finished with school next year and then worry about doing what I can for the best pc I can imagine. And yes I actually have a 4K monitor. Was a gift from my wife. It's what made me think of upgrading. Good call though before I wasted my money.

Well you can upgrade gpu but you will probably need sli 1080 ti for 4k, plus a psu upgrade, in short forget that.
Maybe just wait Edited by DST4ME - 07 Nov 2017 at 9:48pm |

There might be some bottleneck, one of the reasons why it's not worth it then there is the cost plus cost of psu upgrade = not worth it
My pleasure, sorry I'm not well informed in amd so I could not provide better info. |

Go full module go gold or better, in corsair stay in hx and ax models, good quality great warranty
Your current psu can handle a single 1080 Edited by DST4ME - 07 Nov 2017 at 9:58pm |
