Hello to all. I'm just now getting my feet wet to what I call the super computer world,. I am a big time simulation gamer. I don't play a lot of the MMORPG games, but I like to do the usual of storing and downloading music, using the internet, downloading pics and movies and even editing movies. Here is the big part of my question, I love flight simuation and have always wanted a system to just plain run the damn game with everything turned up and no lag. I'm sure a lot of you guys remember the first time you thought that to yourself! I'm not very up-to-date on how to build my own computer, and I'm turning to you guys for help. I'm working on my wife right now to get the go ahead to get the "System of My Dreams" (Nice computer name). She has a max of 2 months or I get it regardless of what she says!! Any help would be so greatly appreciated and I can't wait to see your responses! Thanks in advance.
Jason

Not to concerned with money, don't feel like I need the most expensive thing out there because I'm a "Light" gamer. I'm more concerned with having the perfect PC for the Simulation games that I play like flight simulator. I beleive that the dual core would be good. Again, being so new to building my own system, I would need baby steps to help get my computer built.

Looks amazing!! With what you know about the way I use computers, would it be better for me to have the liquid cooling or the stage 2?

it think with that and liquid cooling you should be around 4.0GHz and fsx loves cpu speed from what I understand.

I would agree on that assessment. FSX loves CPU power.
Honestly at the graphic resolution you are looking at, you could go either liquid or air and be fine in my opinion with that processor. You say you are a complete newbie to this, Liquid cooling has maintenance requirements, adding liquid (Actually a non-conductive fluid not water) which can be concerning for someone unfamiliar with the process. I think you would be just as happy with the air cooled, and still get a great overclock out of the excellent case that DST recommended. Dave |

lol KB@ makes sound like its difficult, adding liquid, once a month if needed is not that difficult.
But KB2 is right, if you are the type of person who does not like to open your case then maybe liquid cooling is not for you, but if you have ever changed anything in your PC, adding liquid is easier then that. Air would do just fine also, your OC speed would not be as high, but you should be fine. Edited by DST4ME - 20 Oct 2008 at 1:18pm |

I never said Hard DST... just concerning... pouring liquid into a reservoir that is placed inside something electronic, not hard... but it can cause concern if you are unfamiliar or nervous about spilling :)
The only reasons I mentioned it was we are talking someone new to custom PCs who seems to want to play games, not play with components As well as the resolution he mentioned is not in the stratosphere and that 260 and a high speed dual core should rip FS-X apart at that resolution without the extra few cycles liquid will net him. Just my opinion thrown into the ring... can't have you being the only response to people now can we. Dave |

I understand that but new people will take that as something difficult, from what I see around here, one time HM mentioned something about OCing and everybody started saying OC is not good.
I never said anything about you expressing your opinion, I was just making sure new people that read your comment don't take it the wrong way. Also like to point out that the OP said he has worked with pcs before other then that I agreed with everything you said Edited by DST4ME - 20 Oct 2008 at 1:36pm |

A mild OC with air cooling would be sufficient for your needs. If you have the extra cash for liquid cooling, it will provide a better OC with a cooler running cpu. Either way you'll get good cpu performance. It's well worth the money to OC with air, understanding that DSO has experience with such matters and they back it up with a warranty.
