Special Needs: Don't really know except to be able to max out games that i mainly play. Here's a rig i customized abit: Chassis Model:Digital Storm x17E Laptop (Model: 7280) Display:17.3 Inch (16:9) (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) (Glossy Surface) LED-Backlit Display Processor:Intel Core i7 990X Extreme Edition (3.46 GHz Turbo Mode to 3.73Ghz) (Six Core) (12MB Cache) Thermal Compound:Premium IC Diamond CPU and GPU Thermal Compound (Reduces Thermal & Laptop Noise) Memory:12GB DDR3 1333MHz (Requires Intel Extreme Edition Processor) Primary Hard Drive:Intel 250GB SSD (510 Series) (SATA 6Gb/s) Secondary Hard Drive:Intel 250GB SSD (510 Series) (SATA 6Gb/s) Optical Drive:Blu-Ray Player & Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer (Blu-Ray 6x Read / Blu-Ray RW 2x) Wireless Card:Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 (Reduces Latency for Online Gaming) Video Card(s):2x SLI (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 2GB) Windows OS:Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) Warranty Plan:Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Note: I'm not really all that knowledge wise in computer parts, therefore i just tried to pick the best things i saw. I want some advice too see if anything is wrong with this rig setup. |

Hi Zarl,
I know you must have your mind set on a lap top but ArchiSurf poses a good question. The gaming experience would be much better on a Desktop. Wouldn't you like to be playing on a 23" to 30" screen than a little 17". You will be spending big bucks for a CPU operating at maybe 3.7Ghz and a desktop would be at 4.7Ghz. There are just a lot of reasons that a desktop is a better gaming machine. Now if you need a laptop for a particular reason I am sure some of the DS laptop users will be along to help you out. You are in for a treat dealing with DS for your computer. Frank |

That would depend on the native res of the monitor you want to be gaming at.

Thats the point, I can spend another $2000 of your money putting the pc under lc, but you won't need it,m it won't give you anymore fps, and if things go wrong its easier to fix yourself without lc.
the only other things is the new x79 high end platform coming out in nov so if you want you can wait for that and get a 30" IPS monitor. Edited by DST4ME - 02 Oct 2011 at 1:29pm |

Hi Zarl,
Since you saved a bunch of money how about a great Dell 24" IPS monitor. That would be money well spent. You should also increase your warranty. The 3 year warranty only gives you one year on parts. Four years gives you 2 years on parts and five years gives you three years on parts. Have one GPU fail after the one year of parts warranty and you will wish you have the extra warranty for $200. You also need to change DST4ME's system to include the free T shirt. Looks cool to walk into a Best Buy with a DS T shirt. Frank Edited by FrankW - 02 Oct 2011 at 7:48pm |

Out of curiosity, given that you're looking toward having some
portability, want an insane gaming experience, and have a pretty darn
high budget...I'm going to throw in a crazy suggestion. How does this case look like to you guys?
For those that can't comprehend the ridiculosity of it (crazy enough to have its own word), it's basically a ATX mid-size tower that has three fold out 17.3", 1920x1080 screens attached to the front, as well as a fold out keyboard/touchpad (not shown) and onboard speakers. I don't know how practical it is given that it's spec'd for a standard sized PS2 power supply, though they do special orders so a larger PSU compartment is possible. 7 slots are open, 4 are "full-length". I need to check specifically what full length means, but again, special orders are possible... If a 700w psu is out of the question, then they do make a single 17.3" 1920x1080 version as well. Of course, it's heavy as heck (~33lbs), but for what it packs into its form factor... To the OP, it's pretty much a fold out, tri-screen 17" laptop with a mid-size tower strapped to the back of the main screen, To any DS employee, would DS be willing to undertake this task? To prove that it is feasible for a gaming rig, well, this is actually that triple screen beast I posted awhile back here Edited by ablahblah - 02 Oct 2011 at 11:04pm |

I beg to differ :D
the 17", single LCD version may be more practical. I've confirmation that the chassis for a 1920x1080 17.3" box will run $2400. You can back that up with an air cooled i7 2600k and a gtx 590 for around $2000 more.

I can't say I like it, to begin with my monitors have to be 24" to begin with, if they were 24" at 1900 x 1200, you may have my attention.
I will act like I didn't see you mention the 590. Edited by DST4ME - 03 Oct 2011 at 8:04pm |

Lol, yeah the 590 was a stupid mention, I just doubt the ability of a case like this to be able to handle two independent 580s.
