I want to have a gaming rig that is capable of playing the following games WITHOUT LAG: 1) Warcraft 3
2) Sonic Mega Collection
3) Command & Conquer generals zero hour
4) Battlefield 2
Should I stick with a desktop or laptop for that? I prefer laptops but if desktop is better for me then please tell me which specifications I should consider.
I also prefer windows xp as OS
Thanks in advance

Do you have a budget? Do you know what res. you'll be gaming at? I would try the Extreme build on the front page for desktops, otherwise I'm going to attempt to make you a desktop config below:
Heres your config @ 2868-Discount=2668$ Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Digital Storm Certified by mushkin enhanced (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 3: High-Performance Liquid Chilled FrostBite System For CPU Liquid Color:Green: Non-conductive High-Performance Fluid (Requires H20: Stage 3 Cooling Package) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) With Windows 7 Upgrade Coupon Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty Review: 1. I selected the haf because it has good airflow so I hear. 2. I randomly selected that mobo with my eyes closed. 3. Gave you 1000W's of future-proof-ness. 4. Gave you 6GB's memory. 5. Gave you 2x500GB HDD's 1 is for your games and what not and if you want you can use the other for backup or do what it says on the sign and use it for media/data. 6. Gave you 2x275 because its good for 1900x1200 since I didnt know what you were gaming @ I did that. Anything less I don't think you'll be needing more than one. 7. Gave you Liquid Cooling. I should help with the noise but I may be wrong... 8. OC'd CPU 3.3-3.9 so you'll be flyin... 9. I forgot to switch the OS's so when you click on that link if you'd do it yourself thanks its near the bottom of the page, because if I do it I'm going to have to re-write this entire review...which wont be fun. 10. It comes equip with my 3yr warranty... |

Can people on this forum READ? I said I will be running 2001 - 2005 games so why liquid cooling, 1000W PSU, and GTX VGA? Also, I believe I bolded the phrase I prefer laptops so why waste my time with a 2010 gaming rig?
Please read before posting unnecessary or unrelated replies to this topic. Thank you

Are you retarded? what you said: Should I stick with a desktop or laptop for that? I prefer laptops but if desktop is better for me then please tell me which specifications I should consider.
Laptop = Weaker and you said if a desktop is better for you which the answer sorta is YES because desktops are better than laptops in everything other than you can run around in circles in the middle of the desert and play command and concore single player mode until the battery dies out. 2nd of all who said this was a 2010 gaming rig? 3rd of all I was trying to help you because you asked for help. 4th of all: you've been very rude. 5th of all: I did ask for a smarter person to review my build. 6th of all: turns out the mobo is fine. 7th of all: 1000w psu doesnt make it a 2010 rig, or does LC. 8th of all: I BID YOU GOOD DAY SiiiiiIIIIIrrrRR |

The 1st thing some one is going to need in order to give you good advise is what is you budget for your new computer.
Laptops are more expensive compared desktops, so you get a better bang for your buck with desktops. The least expensive laptop form DA with Intel's core i7 processer is $2947, while the least expensive desktop with the core i7 is $1771. Add a couple of hundread for a monitor and you are still under 2 grand.
Also you do not have an option to go with more than 1 graphics card with a laptop. Not only does liquid cooling keep you system cool it also helps in noise reduction. If you overclock your CPU to stage 1, liquid cooling isn't required but advanced air cooling is required. If you overclock to stage 2 then liquid cooling is required.
As an example if you look at the Extreme 1 pre-built desktop DA is offering it includes:
All for $1886.
If you choose to customize then it is more expensive but still less than a comparable laptop.
I hope that helps.

Those games don't require 2 video cards. Just saying. The prebuild enthusuast 1 is more than enough to play those games and more. Edited by Sodius - 22 Aug 2009 at 4:07pm |

I don't think I have ever seen a game that actually required 2 graphics cards to run. It wouldn't make sence to design a game that way. You would be limiting the number of potential customers.
Comparing the Enthusiast 1 to the Extreme 1, for an extra $427, you get twice the RAM, 2 graphics cards, the CPU OCed faster, twice the hard drive space and a better case to boot. To me that is a no brainer unless you just don't have the extra dollars. This person was looking at a laptop vs desktop and I was just trying to show him how much more he could get with the desktop.
You are right though that he could run those games on the Enthusiast 1.

For sure a better deal but over kill for what he wants to play. He doesn't seem to be interested in future proofing his rig. That's what I gathered anyway.

Yes I'm NOT interested in future games so thats why I said I prefer laptops over desktops for my 2005 games which I listed in this topic.
Also, I'm not dumb to order a desktop from USA - Kuwait if digital storms will not help me solve my issues or pay for return shipping from Kuwait - USA ($480)
I refuse to do labor and if I was good at labor why would I order a desktop from digital storms rather than building one myself? So either digital storms PAY for return shipping or tell me what laptop I should stick with.

Alright, you don't need to bold things so that people understand what you are saying. We are not dumb either and it is insulting that you seem to think that we are.
That said, there is no reason for you to be so demanding. Also, you're making demands to the wrong people. We're not "digital storms" but rather their customers/fans. A few of the DS staff does post here but not anyone that has posted in this thread. Since you want a laptop, what screen size would you prefer? 15.6" or 17"? Those are the sizes for the customizable options. Also, I do believe that DS is going to refresh/add more stuff to their laptop selection soon. They redid the desktop page and I think they're going to be redoing the laptop page as well. Not sure when that may be, but you might want to wait until then to make any purchases. If that's the case then you made it pretty obvious for yourself since DS only offers no customizable and ONE preconfigured laptop at 15.6 inches, and here it is: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/laptoploadsaved.asp?id=262487
Now literally 2 clicks from the main DS homepage would have gotten you there, but instead of doing one iota of research yourself you came here and spammed this bored with with a question that was quite self evident to begin with, then you insult and flame everyone who tries to help you. So now that you have your answer you can go away. Edited by sirsiddius - 23 Aug 2009 at 5:42am |

Did you know that DS do not make their laptops? If I wanted to purchase a laptop, then I will purchase it from the ORIGINAL MANUFACTOR (Sager notebooks http://www.sagernotebook.com/category_browse.php?cid=&platform=Intel) These laptops posted on DS website can be found at Sager Notebooks for CHEAPER PRICES. Now don't tell me to get a DS laptop.

DID YOU KNOW THAT SAGER DOES NOT MAKE THEIR LAPTOPS? CLEVO does. 1st of all I assumed you knew that and wanted to get a DS laptop cause you liked the brand, which is kind of the point since every high end boutique pc builder's laptops are sourced from CLEVO (INCLUDING SAGER). Clevo is the original MANUFACTUER and Sager is the original DISTRIBUTOR.
Now that you have proven my point that you are a IGNORANT and ARROGANT individual you now have my permission to GET LOST. |

If you don't want me to then you have to offer me something which is better then what the "trolls" are offering me, as this is a standard way of doing business (consumers want high quality products at a resonable price)

You seem to misunderstand me. YOU are the troll. You only seem to come to the forums to be belligerent and put down DSO products. If that is your purpose and you want to buy a Sony Vaio then go do so. Nobody is stopping you.
