Well to make a good gaming rig all you really need is this. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=437357
if you really want to you can upgrade to a better processor (but the only one thats worth upgrading to is the extreme i7) and you can do dual gtx 480's but it would be a great gaming rig just as it is. you might want to add a blu ray player tho if you will watch blu rays but yea. heres a good gaming rig for about $2,000

On that note, I see they replaced the EVGA x58 LE selection with the new revamped version of the LE, the EVGA x58 SLI3.

It has USB 3.0 and better PCIe lane placement. Hahaha

Looks pretty good I don't think the memory upgrade will make a difference and you only need a 750w psu. other than that looks pretty good.

lookin really good nick only gripe i have is the 1000w psu. little too much for 1 480, not enough for 2

i say in your price range, spring for the 2nd 480(and 1200w), if youre not interested, you could save a little by dropping to the 750w psu

But i saw on these forums that 2 480s is overkill and a waste of money 'cause it doesn't preform much better than 1 480

this is definitely not true at all, its not cost effective if youre a building a gaming only rig but if you were looking to spend 6000 an the gains are from 60% to 80%

my thread was warning more against multi gpu cards and 2 lower gpus being "better" than other options

im not saying you have to, just suggesting an option, 2 big players here who both got single 480s are going for sli, that says a lot to me

Yep, I started out with a single 480 and upped to SLI and love it. You definitely suffer an increase in heat and noise, but the performance gains have been really impressive. As Ender said, I'm seeing ~60-80% gains in frame rates (most games closer to the 80)and am easily able to run even the most demanding games (Metro 2033, Crysis) with everything turned up all the way - something I couldn't do with a single 480 (even at only 1680x1050) and keep acceptable frame rates.

If it's in the budget and you are the type who demands everything be turned up all the way in every game you play, then go for it! If you don't mind turning some settings down or off (especially anti-aliasing), then a single 480 should be fine.

exactly what i meant, thanks for elaborating

however most games can still turn up most settings.. thats the difference from max and high i was talking about in the guide... metro and crysis dont apply they are very untogether lol the waste tons of resources

max is right on both counts

although for a little extra saved the noctua u12p is really just as good, if you want to max that noctua 14 you will need to buy an additional 140 mm fan as it only comes with 2 of the capable 3 which kinda sucks, especially for the price

the only thing the noctua cools is your processor, and like i said, the noctua u12p is just as good, so the 14 will be fine

Yes i suggest a 1200W psu or the 1250 enermax if they still got that, havnt checked in a while.
Your cant have raid with 1 SSD and Pick an intel ssd or dragoon will come in with his copy and paste lmao
With a computer this great, go get a good sound card and a nice set of speakers or nice pair of headphones. Trust me youll enjoy it.
You can easily find better deals on keyboard/speaker etc on other sites and plus if u buy from DS they ship it separately and they arent included on the warranty

The chipset cooling isn't totally necessary but if you can fit it in your budget definetly go for it, if you're planning on doing ANY overclocking I'd go with a 1200watt power supply and give yourself that headroom
