I need help convincing my parents to buy a comp off of digital storm, they been stalling and stuff for a while now over 2 months. They keep wanting my cousin and this other family member to buy the parts and build it themselves since they can build computers. But I would rather professional builders like Digital Storm do it, even though 1 of them works for Dell (dam i hate that company). So I need some help making points they can't deny so to get this computer from Digital Storm. Maybe something like the prices for parts cost less on Digital Storm than other sites? Please I need help I want this Digital Storm computer so bad, this is the link to the comp I want
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=209505 If you think about it like I have, this will be the only comp for myself for like a minimum of 3-5 years, (I'm 14) by which time I will be old enough to update it with my own money or buy a new one if I need to. Also even if I stopped gaming with high quality games on it, it can still destroy basically everything thing else I will use it for. |

why not show them the 3year parts and labor warranty? most online retailers dont offer that long of a warrant, plus you dont have to worry about recieveing a bad part and RMAing it, the systems are stress tested to make sure the components work when they are packaged. even if something doess go bad digital storm ships you new one.

Show them the G4/PC gamer review...
You could show them some of the posts here of people recieving there units and being 100% satisfied.
3 year warranty (Even with an overclock)
Good ole USA tech support - unlike most companies that transfer you to a person in india reading off a sheet of pre wrote responses.
Expert craftsman ship and customization... (Not locked into certain settings like on a dell)
Easy upgradability in the future..
Supreme cable management..
The list goes on and on and on....
DS System
Avg Cable Job

if you want to keep that PC for 5 years, go with 1000w PSU, EVGA mobo and cm v8 for CPU cooler.
this way in the next 5 years, you will need to spend very little to keep the PC powerful and up to date.
tell you parents that DS has a A+ BBB rating
full of people like myself that are customers of DS and stand by them. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Feb 2009 at 6:04pm |

I find myself unable to actually add much to this persuation. For me the 3 years of America full customer service on parts and ESPECIALLY labor (overclocking) was the #1 reason I chose DSO. Sure I 'could' have put one together myself..but what if something went wrong? I'd have to deal with every manufacturer and website I ordered from and even then you're only covered for a year IF that. Many products on Newegg are only covered witha 30day return and after that you have to deal directly with the manufacturer...can you say time consuming?
Bottom line, IF something, anything goes wrong in the next year...you only have to call one place. IF anything happens in the next two years after that...you're STILL covered.
I can't tell you how many things in my life have lasted the magical 'year and a day' then failed on me. 3 years is a rock solid warranty that would often cost you an arm and a leg at retail sites like Dell and HP.

Ok the facts are simple:
1) Great bang for the buck: A) Competitive pricing for fully built rigs B) Beats Dell in cost vs performance C) 3 year warranty vs 1 year for the Dell folks D) Over clocking and tested for stability for $45 2) Great for keeping track of you A) Tell them it so sweet that you will stay home and play games B) Without it you will be tempted to join a sport at school and they will have to get up off the couch and actually come to watch you play. C) Tell them since it will last 5 to 7 years that you will be playing so much you wont have a use for them to buy you a car. Thats just the route I would go. I was always good at bargining with the kin. |

You will soon learn that your parents know best....
Not always true. How often have or did your parents tell you not to do something without them trying it themselves. That never made since to me. How can they personally know if they like or don't like something if they don't try it. I should know I'm a parent :( Bullseyehk problem there, i actually like sports and did kickboxing at one point, and they hate me spending long hours on the computer. Oh kick boxing I like you already future client for that ACL rupture /drool...true sports are fun but let them know they can watch American Idol reruns on the TV Guide channel more often if they get you this computer. Can also try the whole I'm using it for school thing but most parents will see right past that. The whole spending long hours on the computer thing can be surpassed by simply playing at night when they are asleep. With the sleep deprivation from all the computer playing not only will your grades go down but you will not have a need for sports since your reflexes will be shot as soon as the Cafe Mocha from Starbucks wears off. My recommendation beg for the computer and forget sports( its safer unless you have seizures). Install a dorm room size fridge in your room(this was a school use computer right?) Hang your parents favorite college logo items all around your room just to show them how serious you are about going to school. Kiss them goodnight or hug them (assuming you do this normally. if you don't, DO NOT START, as its the easiest way to bring the weary eyes on your gaming). If this doesnt work you can always cry. It worked with my wife. Eta to order t-2 weeks |

Taken from the book "What I learned from America's Funniest Home Videos"
Lay down on the floor, in front of your parents, kicking and screaming about how it's unfair that they won't get you the computer. If they leave the room, wait a minute and follow them to where they went to. If they move again, keep following. Now, one of two things will happen. They will either give in or they will video tape you and send it to America's Funniest Home Videos to get the money to pay for your computer. Well, there's a third option.... but we don't wanna go there. (edit: typos) Edited by MrNanite - 24 Feb 2009 at 3:37pm |

I have to agree 100% with HM here, parents tend to see around corners where kids don't |

As somebody who is still a kid, even though I'm in my late 40's, I can say that a lot of things my parents did made a lot more sense in hindsight than they did at the time. I think that's what others are trying to tell you when they say "parents know best."
That said, I think the most convincing argument for a getting a computer when you are young is if you tell them that you are very interested in learning a lot more about computers because you are thinking about going into computers as a career and you want them to get you one that "just works right" so you can use it for a variety of things over the next 5 years. Tell them you are worried that one built by relatives or friends might be too buggy. Parents are always worried about your future. If you tell them that this computer might help secure your long-term future by inspiring you to go into a field where you can easily support yourself financially, they see it as more of an investment in your future, rather than an expense. |
