im in the market for a new gaming rig. out of all the sites i've viewd DS is the one i feel most comfortable with.
i was looking to spend under 2k and this is what i came up with. i am using it for games such as crysis.
i ask that you look over it and give your opinions. thanks

Spend an extra:
* $56 for a Q9300
* $25 for a 500GB HD
* $9 for a Lightscribe DVD burner
* $2 for a GeForce 9800GTX
* $22 for Vista Home Premium

stick with the 6600 if you are planning to overclock, or go to 9450 for best stock performance
agree with the the HDD/lightscribe/vista
id hold out for the release of the new GPUs, its not too far away, if you cant wait, the card you picked is very solid but id consider a gx2 or maybe a gtx
get at least stage 2 cooling, even if you arent going to OC, its a smart thing to have
i'd consider going to a 7 series mobo or an asus

I think tyler's config is an excellent setup for the price! If I had $2k and needed a new gaming pc, I'd go with that myself.

i like tylers pick, but i feel going a bit over 2k will be way more beneficial in the long run... if you know how to overclock yourself, or are willling to learn, it would only be $2131 this is especially the case when i consider that the first program you mention is the universal dream crusher of new machines

Radeon HD4870, July 8th.
Radeon HD4870X2, sometime in Summer. Geforce 9800GTX+, sometime in July. GTX 280 & 260 55nm, sometime in the future. |

thanks skyR! Will the Geforce 9800GTX+ be worth waiting for over the 9800GTX that i currently have placed on my build: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=159792? Or should i consider replacing the 9800 all together in favor of the current 260 or the new 260 55nm?

9800GTX+ is nothing special. It's just a 55nm version of the 9800GTX with higher clocks.
It's totally up to you if you want to spend the extra $$. The GTX 260 is around $349 while the 9800GTX is $199. I personally wouldn't since I think the HD4850 and HD4870 are better cards than the GTX series. And the GTX series 55nm die-shrink won't be out until September at earliest. So do you think it would be a good idea to switch out my 9800GTX for the HD4870 (i think it will be the same price on DS)?
and if so will i need to change anything else on my build to better fit the HD4870
( my build again: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=159792)

The only thing I would point out, is if you use an SLI ready board, you can't run HD4870 in crossfire. If you don't care about the multi GPU option, it doesn't matter. Otherwise, go with an Intel based motherboard.
That config is pretty solid though.
The only other minor tweek might be going to a 750W PSU. This is again dependent on whether or not you plan on multi GPU later, and how much power those cards will consume.

asus rampage, and buying computer hardware is like buying a car, the second you take it out of the box (assuming its new) the value will hit the floor becuase you'll install it and sit down to see that another newer, better, faster, shinier part has become avail, its best not to get worked up about it, if what you have satisfies your gaming needs, do you need something else?
the thing that catches my eye is the gx2 smashing the 280/260... the link to the full review doesnt work though =/
