I've actually only heard good things about it. I left it out because while its "free", it also requires a ~$95 cooling upgrade. While the CPU is very important, I've heard you can do without the latest and greatest for games since they rely more on the GPU. Feel free to tell me otherwise! I'm very open to changes. I also have some slight concerns about burning it out too early. I would like my comp to last 4-5 years minimum... |

OC help no matter what, its the one tweak that makes huge differences in your pc's performance. That $95 gives you hundreds of dollars worth of perfomrance gain, one way to look at it, the 960 is over $200 more and is at 3.2GHz, your oc will put around 3.7GHz or higher for $95, thats way way faster then the 960.
Also some games are cpu intensive, in those you want all the cpu juice you can get, also your cpu speed is your pc's speed, higher speed = everything goes faster, windows, apps, etc. with a oc 3.9GHz your cpu will last at least 8 years if not longer, your warranty is for 4 years, that covers the pc with the oc. here is how I would play it, instead of going with a small SSD that you will have upgrade soon anyways, go with the important stuff now and upgrade to a ssd in a couple of months, the new intel gen 3 ssds are due out in 2 or 3 months, why don't you just upgrade to one of those. In a few month buy a ssd and use that for HDD1 for OS/Games/Apps, and push the 500GB to HDD2 and use it for storage. so based on that check this out: Here you go Ticket# 472834 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X58 (Intel X58 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital/Seagate/Hitachi/Samsung (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua NH-U12P SE Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: FREE PROMO: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 4 Year Limited Warranty to move everything from 500GB to ssd when you are ready, just follow my clone guide, you will move everything in one shot, os/apps/games and all. you can follow my clone guide here Edited by DST4ME - 25 Dec 2010 at 9:49pm |

the overclocking is free.. the cooler isnt
however
even if you dont overclock, you are going to put more of hurting on your CPU with a stock cooler than you are with an overclocked CPU and a noctua cooler
how bout that?
sad but true, and even more true is that if you pick up a 9 series chip and dont overclock it, you might as well go back to socket 775 becuase you will be going slower than my 4 year old q6600 and paying a heck of a lot more for it
no thanks, its just not a good idea, the hardware is made to overclock, take advantage of it
and yes, games do rely more on gpu power, but you need a CPU minimum to be met before the gpu power makes a difference
