I need some advice on building this computer. I'm a little new at this but I think i'm knowledgeable about computers in general and can basically pick it up as needed. Just let me know what you guys would suggest for a build around 2400 bucks. I really don't want to go much above this price because well I don't have the cash right now
I built this one but don't know about the graphics cards I decided to use. I do a lot of HD video editing for Halo and other console titles. I need it to be strong enough to allow me to record this 720p video and then playback and edit easily with After Effects. I kinda want to play some games on it :) cause I've never had a comp good enough to play games at a visual level that was worth it. Ticket Number: 258368 Total Price with Instant Savings: $2,367.00 Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: XFX X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Mushkin (Highly Recommended) (Digital Storm Certified) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 512MB) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Upgrade Chassis With LED Performance Fans (Blue) Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Any help would be appreciated guys. |

I forgot to say that I have a 24" Gateway 1900x1200 monitor to use for it. I know that matters I just forgot to put that in there. I also don't need a bigger hard drive that 500 gb because I have a 1TB external backup where I put all that extra stuff.
One question I forgot to ask too is Should I have 6gb of ram or 3 because I would rather have a better graphics cards than more ram I think. The power supply is only 750W but should it be more I don't know about that at all. I really just want some opinions to look at. Thanks for the help again guys. |

Ticket Number: 260546 Copy of Specifications: What you built wasn't bad, this one will be a bit better. The GTX 295 is already in SLI mode and will be much superior to the SLI 9800 you selected. I only went with 3GB ram as you can add another 3 at a later date when you can spare the money to upgrade. I upped your PSU to 1000 watts to help power the GTX 295 and provide future proofing for any further upgrades, perhaps you may want to add a GTX 295 down the road as well. You should be able to get a fairly decent overclock on this with the V8 Coolermaster.
Others may suggest other setups, compare them all and do what you think works best for you. But, I do believe I have provided and excellent start for you to consider.
Edit: Dagnabbit! DST4ME beat me with four choices! Edited by Kryhavoc - 18 Mar 2009 at 12:40am |

Thanks a bunch guys I have a lot to go over now and look at and I only made this thread like 45 minutes ago. Thats just awesome
I have a few questions to ask you guys about these builds too. Does not having a sound card affect performance??? I know it used to but i'm not sure anymore. Also, how much is 3 gig going to affect performance? I don't really know about ram and performance because my laptop has 2 and when I upgraded to that from 1 it was like night and day.

4GB would be perfect, 3GB is a little under what you would want.
i7 moves in 3GB increments so 6GB will cover what ever you throw at it. not having a sound card will not make a difference that you would even notice. if you look at creditable sites that do GPU/game reviews, they never mention the HDD or sound card in the review, that is because their impact is not even noticeable and makes very little difference in fps, if any. |

If they change it out for you they replace the 230mm fan with a 120mm fan.
I just went ahead and ordered the blue LED fan from Cooler Master and will install it once I receive my rig from DS.
Unfortunately, it seems they are no longer listed on their site. Probably just out of stock though...

I believe the prebuilds just come with a red fan with blue case lighting.
I'm not sure the picture is a true representation of the system; although I could be wrong... Edited by issues1975 - 20 Mar 2009 at 3:06pm |
