Ok, my X.P.S. laptop has finally died, again. And this time I have no desire to resurrect it with expensive repairs. So it has become time to get my nice new pretty gaming desktop. I'm trying to stay under 4k, around 3 to 3.5 would be even better, and am looking for some ideas. I have so many configs I've done on here I don't think posting one would help on here. So any advice would be appreciated.

What resolution does your monitor support up to?

DS's extended warranties do not cover their monitors so cheaper and better to just purchase one elsewhere at a local retailer or online e-tailer. I'd recommend getting one that supports at least a 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 resolution, but how much you want to spend on a monitor will be up to you.

When you make a decision on a monitor let us know what resolution it can support up to and then we can best configure a PC for you. If you need help making a monitor selection some other members of the forum might be able to help you more, but I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable on monitors myself.

OS/apps on the SSD, everything else on the HDD.

A single GTX 480 can already max every game there is at 1920x1200 except the usual oddities like Crysis and Metro 2033. The 1250w PSU is enough to run two GTX 480s so you have the option of adding a second one a year or two down the road if games start coming out that a single 480 can't handle.

I know your budget was a lot higher but there really isn't much more worth splurging on. Save money now to spend on upgrades later when you can actually get some decent improvement from it when newer video cards come out or whatnot.
