So I've been lurking here for a while and am almost ready to take the plunge, but i need some feedback.

I've always wanted to get a gaming computer, and I finally have the funds to do so. I was originally looking to purchase from another well known company about a year ago, but financial problems with the family forced me to give up the entire funds to help out. I recently began looking again with same company and stumbled onto this website after seeing a link on their messageboard (lol). After reading numerous reviews, it seems DS takes the cake when it comes to quality gaming systems.

I've come up with a config that I'm sure will more than satisfy my needs, but I would like some input. To start off, I plan on using this rig purely for gaming. Currently, I play older games like LFD and Red Orchestra/Darkest Hour, but plan on moving on toward more intense games such as Crysis and others in the upcoming months. For this reason, I'm primarily interested in building strong skeleton to which i can add things to later (this is why i chose the higher end mobo). Secondly, I'm the type of person that likes to have all the bells and whistles on their new bike (hence the cooling system). My theory is go big or go home (although not too big), because I know that when two weeks roll around and I get my paycheck, I will regret not going with the higher end option when it was only a couple hundred dollars more. I'm ashamed to say it, but looks are also a part of my decision, which is probably why I went with the LC (I've always been captivated by the look of LC systems). I also plan on adding some Ballistix LED ram later on which is why i chose low ram to start.

My config is below. I'd appreciate any feedback positive or negative. The Max resolution i would play on is 1280x1024 if that helps. Thanks in advance!

Ok before I comment on your build, can you explain to me why would one go with bells and whistles on the pc but then game at 1280x1024? thats like bringing a 250mph F1 race care to drive on streets where you can only go 50mph.

why not get a good powerful PC without all the BS that don't make a difference at the end of the day anywys, and put that money toward a kickass IPS monitor? so that you can game at higher res.

once we figure out the monitor, I will comment on your build you have somethings that need changing.

You've got an $850 LCS, fan controls, killer card, and the most expensive mobo on a system with a basic overclock and a single gtx 570? If you're gonna get the bells and whistles, then get the ones that perform man. If you cut all the fat off that build you can upgrade the power supply, get a way faster hdd set up, jump to sli, hell you can get a way better monitor too, and all for less money...Like this.

That is agreat build but horribly overkill for 1280x1024, and I mean we can take out one of those 570 and he would never know the difference.

however if he goes for a good IPS monitor with 1900 x 1200, then I would be a good build.

tho I would change teh ssd and wait for gen 3 to hit DS.

thanks for the input guys. yeah i do stupid things like go for overkill from time to time lol. Im playing at 1280x1024 because my monitor is old and thats all i have right now. I do plan on upgrading to a better monitor soon, which is why i went with all the higher end stuff to accommodate for future upgrades. Do you guys think the mobo would be too much overkill? Whats a good monitor that you would recommend? I'd be interested in medium high end type.

As far as drives are concerned, all i would need it for is games/apps/os so i think 500 gb would be fine since i don't DL anything. If i went with a SSD for OS I would get it after the new gen 3 so i can get a better price on the older models.

Thanks!

Well it makes more sense to not get some of the pointless bells and whistels and instead put the money toward a good monitor now:

Dell UltraSharp U2410

Dell UltraSharp U3011 30"

Dell Ultrasharp U2711 27"

I forgot to mention that in my builds the 160GB is really a place holder for the new intel 320 ssds, they are larger but cheaper, so that is what we are waiting on.

@Kriegaffe, the new 320 series is a little faster but mainly is suppose to cost less, you grab one those and add it to the system.

That is so tempting... I really had no idea about the performance of these.  Sort of like when I went from dial up to cable back in the mid to late 90's.  I will never be without one again!

Thanks for the advice guys. Those builds look temping DST. Judging from your builds, I take it that going with the Asus P8P67 Deluxe would be sufficient? The reason i ask is that although i may not need the best equipment at the moment, i do plan on going sli and upgrading to better monitor/very intense gaming in the future, and i figured that since i will have this comp for a while, going with the best mobo would be a good choice. Would this be a correct assumption?

Yes it would, although due to motherboard pci-e bandwidth issues, Sandybridge is only viable for dual sli. Dual 570's should be enough to run any new game at 2560x1600 resolution that some of the 30 inch high end monitors have, and are the perfect performance to price ratio for more demanding games at 1900x1200.

Well some games at 2560 x 1600 will need more then dual cf/sli, but most games should be ok, for 2560 x 1600 I like 6970 cf myself.

If you want sli then deluxe mobo and 1000w corsair are needed, otherwise no sli.

Best PC IMO, is the one that has all upgrade doors open, so personally when I build a pc for my family and friends, I use a mobo that can do sli and a 1000w psu,and one card, then later they have the option of going dual sli if they need it, if I see they have large monitor and might need tri sli then I go with 1200w psu, and 2 gpus, with the option of adding the third if needed.

That sounds like good advice to me. So would you say there is any added benefit of going with the asus maximusIV over the Asus deluxe in regards to upgradeability? thanks for all your help

No not really, the deluxe will give you sli and more pci lanes for upgrading.
