Hey everyone, I'm currently in the market for a new desktop computer. I have no idea what specs I'll need so I was wondering if I could get some help.

Budget: I'm not really on a budget, just looking for something to fit my needs. Somewhere in the 2-3k range probably.

Expectations: A solid computer that won't be in danger of overheating, and I know "future proofing" is a tentative subject in the computer world but I would like this to last 3 years while performing well if possible.

Usage: I'm not a FPS type person, I mostly play MMORPG's, or rhythm games like stepmania/osu! that don't really require much in the way of graphics. I'd like to play an MMORPG in a relatively dense population area while also being able to record (maybe livestream) at high frame rates.

I know MMORPG's by themselves aren't very taxing, but something like GW2 seems to take a bit more than WoW in terms of specs and with any new MMORPG's that come out I'm sure they will also be more advanced than something like WoW.

Special Needs: I'm currently using a laptop so a monitor and keyboard will also need to be purchased. I don't really care much for speakers as I'm typically using a headset. This is a 100% gaming computer, I don't have anything work related to do on it.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice on a setup.

Hi Ankoku....  Welcome to the forums.

There are a ton of ways to go with DS.   Strong    For your budget and gaming I would first look at the ODE systems.  These are pre-built systems and are priced to give you alot for your money.  Whether you want a SSD, sli, etc determines which system fits your needs.

Graphics might be more demanding than you think.  If you decide to game on a U2312HM Dell UltraSharp monitor at 1920x1080 resolution for example, and MMO with heavy population, then the gtx 670 would be the card to get.  It's within 5-10% of the gtx 680 for alot less.  MMO's can be very demanding on most single cards.

Here's a custom build to check out if ODE isn't your thing.

Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty

Compared to ODE lvl 3, this build has better case, motherboard and cpu cooler.

The HafX case is the best for cooling and quiet with its large slow moving fans.

The Sabertooth mobo has a 5 year warranty as opposed to 3 yrs for most others and can sli, adding another 670 if needed.

The Noctua d14 cooler is the best, quiet and very relaiblle.  Not much to go wriong with a big block of cooling fins.

Custom like this build is more money for the same gaming, but has better components, but the ODE's are a great way to go also.

Hope this helps and good luck. Big%20Smile

Thanks for the response bprat22.

I think I have most of what I want figured out, but I'm kind of paranoid about overclocking and CPU cooling.

The noctua seems like a solid cooler, it shouldn't be a problem at 4.5-4.8 ghz right?

The Noctua can handle it no problem.

You could just go with stage 1 oc.    It'll clock to about 4.3 or 4.4 and with little difference in gaming.     Whatever you feel comfortable with.
