I'm currently facing a future hard drive issue that I really have no clue how to go through with. Getting a laptop soon that supports dual hdds, and I want to save myself the trouble of manually copying files back and forth when I need to bring my laptop and data on the go, so I figured I'm just going to dedicate the laptop's secondary hard drive to data for both systems. Problem is, I can't figure out a safe way to mount it in my system while being able to remove it quickly. My case is in fact equipped with hot-swap adapters, but even so, finding an adapter that'll convert a 2.5" drive to a standard 3.5" connector that'll stay cool has been really really hard.
Thought I struck gold the other day when I found this, but I started getting concerned about whether a standard 7200rpm HDD, not an SSD, would fare temperature wise under that hood. A 180mm fan is dedicated to the hard drive bay on my case as well, but the adapter doesn't have ventilation holes oriented in a way that the fan would be effective. Can anyone give me some suggestions? I either need to be looking for a good drive cooler, or a different adapter. Or do you think that Icy Dock adapter would stay cool enough? |
