Hey guys,
I am looking to make a purchase within the next two weeks. The PC will be used almost exclusively for gaming with the exception of some occasional document processing (e.g., making charts in Excel, compiling short laboratory reports) and web surfing. My monitor is an Acer 23" Widescreen Flat Panel LCD with a resolution of 1920x1080. I mainly play strategy games (Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne right now; Starcraft 2/Warcraft 4? in the future) and also plan to play some Team Fortress 2 as well as the Warhammer MMO and the new Star Wars MMO when it comes out. My budget is around $2500. There is wiggle room to go some over if there is a notable difference in computing power/upgradeability. If the PC can be "future-proof", that would be ideal. I would like to be able to build on what I have rather than re-build every 3 years or so. I understand if that is asking too much though. Thanks in advance! My pleasure
this build you can hold 5 total HDDs, 6 optical drives (you can add more HDDs in place of optical drives), you got a 1000w corsair psu, so you can go 3 x 5870, your mobo can do tri cf or plenty of usb ports, and my favorite, last but not least, you can upgrade the cpu to the new 980x 6 core or i7 970 6 core whenever you want, so in a few years, these chips specially the 970 will be very cheap, and you can have a 6 core pc for dirt cheap. next thing I would add is a good ssd, remember all SSDs are not the same, as of right now you want to go for ocz vertex models, intel or corsair. Also keep in mind with most SSDs the smaller the size of the ssd the lower the speed, so stick to 120GB or above and you will be good Edited by DST4ME - 23 Mar 2010 at 5:52pm |

the 970, not sure to be honest, but that $700 would be when it comes out, in 2 or 3 years it be cheaper, besides intel will come out with a couple of other lower prices 6 cores I think, I'm normally good on knows the road map, lately I've been a bit more busy so I have not had a chance to keep on the edge.

Could I bother you for one other build suggestion DST4ME? I may be able to lock up a few hundred dollars extra, rounding out my budget to around $3000. Is there anything you would do differently in a build?
All of the other specs are the same for the usage of the computer. Edited by Scarlatch - 24 Mar 2010 at 10:59pm |
