    Posted: 07 Feb 2009 at 6:10pm
I was just about to purchase this setup from the other company and then I thought I should check here first.  I want to buy from DS but I can't always select the options I want.  So forgive me for posting the other config but I need the help.

Question:  What would this config cost me here at DS?  Thanks in advance for you help.

Welcome aboard

you have to call DS on Monday and ask them that, you have some stuff that is not in the config page, which is not a problem at all for them, but we would not know the cost of use for those parts.

can I ask you what your budget is and what resolution you gonna be gaming at?

Thanks for the reply.  Budget is $2800.00.  The game that I play the most is COD WAW.  My monitor is a Dell 2050 and supports resolution of 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz.  Hopefully I answered your questions.

Thanks again.  No reason for the 2 x 295 cards.  What do you suggest I get?  The clan I game in has a bunch of guys who have these monster machines and I am trying to keep pace with them.  Plus I work from home a lot and I want a more upscale machine that I can game and do my work on.   I am sure you heard that story before.

I want my next computer to last awhile and not have to always upgrade.

down the road you can upgrade the CPU to a i7 975, which in turn will give you a better OC speed, when you are ready, DS will help you with all of it, install, OC, etc.

you can upgrade your HDD to a SSD or veloci raptor, the HAF can hold 6 optical drives and 5 HDDs.

you can add another 295 if you should need one.

the i7 920 is faster then the qx9770, as you know the qx9770 is better then the Q9650.

this mobo comes with 8.1 integrated sound

you are getting more ram (6GB vs 4GB) and faster ram too (1333MHz vs 1066MHz)

oh ya before I forget, you get another $150 off the price above

NP if you have any questions let me know, just so you know I don't work for DS, I'm just a customer, but if you take a quick look around you will see they are such a great company that you can't compare anybody else to them, they truly bent over back wards to make sure the customer is happy.

for your money this is a much better system

I was pritty much in the same boat you are in, was looking around at builds and company's and dst4me helped me out (like many others) and I should have my rig next week. So far DS has been hands down the best support, price, and quality (dont know about quality yet but hear its the best, but I guess I will be the judge in a week) and I have never been so excited about a computer coming and you can call and ask them anything and they will help you right away.

Like eta on rig or whatever your question may be. So far I am way happy with ds just over excited about its arrival so go with dst4me build through ds and I dont think you will regret it and you will blow your friends machines outa the water, just watch G4's review on the front page

Hold on a second now, 8.1 sound does not suck, if sound is very important to you then go with a sound card but these day with these 8.1, sound is pretty good.

I didnt say 8.1 sound sucks. 8.1 is awsome!!! onboard sound is horrible and that is not want you want for a gaming rigg. It is like getting tne best HDTV/BD player/audio reciever and speakers and use mono sound!! I didnt even want to play a game when I was stuck with onboard sound right after I installed my third 280 and had to uninstall my soundcard. You dont play games so onboard sound would effect you as much.

well what I'm saying is that the on-board which is a 8.1 is pretty good, some people don't care that much about sound, even when I did play games on the PC the sound was not that important to me.

I agree that the sound card provides better sound quality, thats a given, but I can't say that the on-board 8.1 sound is horrible.

I don't use speakers anyway,  I only use headphones so I would not waste the money on a separate sound card.  Thanks for replying.

IMO, if you listen with high quality headphones, then you will be more apt to appreciate the performance boost of a dedicated sound card. The difference is like night and day. An ASUS Xonar is like a true high end audio component, while onboard sound is more like mainstream department store audio. Think Hifi shop separate component systems vs. walmart compact "systems". Of course, if you can't hear the difference between mp3s and CDs and vinyl, then it doesn't really matter. Still, a Xonar helps with your bragging rights! Ermm
I used to review music and audio components for a living, so I know what good music reproduction is about. Cool

I am still thinking about getting the second GTX 295.  I will most likely buy a 26" or 28" monitor and want to make sure that the video card will not hold me back.  I also read this in the DS website, question 4.

http://www.digitalstormonline.com/dslabs/expertfaq.asp#q7

What do you think?  Also any input on the monitor?

Thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't this two separate means of accessing the internet in your original build that you posted?

If it is, I was wondering if you really want access to both methods or only need one method of internet access.

I only ask because I noticed that DST4ME presented you with a build for regular internet access, not wireless internet access.

e06028, the system I build for you, can hanlde another 295 gtx just fine.

however if I were you I would wait till I got the new monitor and then get the second card if you need it.

later prices will be lower, right now you will pay full price.

Hopefully they won't delete this.  I was thinking that it could be a lot cheaper if I built this rig myself.  The price of parts are coming down right now.  What is your opinion?

Don't give it if you think they will get upset.

DS is very cool about this stuff, one of very few forums you can freely speak your mind about these things.

normally the difference should not be more then two to three hunderd if you use the same exact parts and build it yourself, which fair.

what is the difference you are finding?

I am at about $500, when I buy online and a local store parts.  Some of the parts are at 20% off at the local store, same stuff as in the build.  The only thing I can't figure out is that memory, not enough detail on the DS build for me to find the exact match, and I know that could be a big difference.

I thought about building myself also.  But having them warranty the Overclock and dealing with any issues during stress testing made the decision for me.  My machine is going through an intense stress test as I am typing this.  If something blows or just doesn't act right, DS will just deal with it and take care any problems before I receive my new dream machine.

I just can't take the hassle of something going wrong and having to deal with the chip or motherboard people who would try to say that I did something wrong in putting the chip in, thermal pasting, or overclocking.  The few dollars more and the 3 year warranty which is a real one unlike Ibuypower convinces me to go with DS.

We all wish you luck and a few people stop by that are building their machines and the gurus give them advice.  We are a team here!  I am just wanting a well built machine that will be my dream machine and still have someone to whine to if something goes wrong!

Keep us advised on how your build goes.  The folks here on this forum are very supportive and will help you if you build it yourself or buy it here.

you can request any part that you specifically want for the system and more than likely DS will oblige. Also the reason to go with DS is because it might be a hassle to build and test your system by yourself and because of the awesome customer support. That is why I went with DS.
Why do they blame me for all their little failings? They use my name as if I spent my entire day sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive - Lucifer

To me.. The cable management job they do alone is worth 200 bucks Smile... Alot of people get overwhelmed with the wires, so you should definitley think about how well you can manage cables.

Keep in mind the constant headaches you might encounter if a part goes bad or you have to rma a psu back to newegg etc.. I thought about building my own many times over, but I couldn't justify the headaches and holes in the wall to build my own.

Good Point, I did not factor in the wiring cost.  Plus I think the 3 year warranty covers anything that goes wrong.

e06028,

Take a few moments to read through the most recent posts on this forum.  I do not think that you would be able to find such a close knit group of satisfied customers who are there to back you up with any issues you may have,  The DS staff are real professionals that monitor the forum and actually answer their phones and sincerely are concerned about being sure you are happy with the dream machine that YOU configured and they build to order just to be sure that you are absolutely satisfied!!!!

Onkel_Ken, I have been reading the posts like you said I must agree that you people are very helpful. I am so glad I did not buy from someone else before looking here, what a mistake that would have been.

I see you have the HAF 932, what do you think of it?  It is huge compared to what I have now, just wondered if you would still buy that beast again.
