I know this might sound silly - the new 1080's and 1070's are out. I have dual 980's. I play mostly at 1440 / 1080p. I should be ok and not feel the need to upgrade to new cards? "I'm trying to feel good about my current cards"

Honest, @ 1080p... you'll have 0 worries basically for the next 5+ years. 1080p is such a joke resolution (in terms of how taxing it is), it's not even funny.

Now 1440p. It really depends. If you want to be breaking that 60-100 fps barrier, you'll want to upgrade. But if you're ok with like a 30-70 fps range while play games at 1440p with them really turned up, then yes... you're in very good shape and I don't really see it getting worse.

Don't let the 980's fool you. They may not be the strongest card out there, but they are extremely good enough for 1080p max settings for many, many years to come.

With that in mind, just so you know, unlike prior generations comparisons (Such as the Titan Black and 780 Ti compared to the Titan X and 980 Ti) where the performance difference was... minimal to say the least, we are actually seeing some 25%+ performance with the 1080's compared to the prior Ti class. So you will definitely notice a strong difference. But the question is... do you feel it's a needed difference.

Me... I'd keep my 980's and not upgrade until the 1080 Ti's come out. Or wait til 2017 (?) for the next generation.. I forget it's name.
