Budget:
$3000 (not firm but little flexibility) I've been out of the custom builds game for quite some time so a lot of this is fairly new to me. Want something that is a bit futureproof, reliable, and can handle multi-tasking & gaming well Lots of multi-tasking with work and gaming. WoW is my poison and need a config that will run 1440 @ highest FPS. Planning on using a Samsung CRG9 monitor to help eliminate the need for multiple monitors for work. One of the reasons I chose the GeForce RTX 3080 as recommended by other individuals. Based on my findings from other posts in these forums went with MSI motherboard for better CS support and Samsung SSD EVO for warranty. Going with AMD build for cost efficiency. The main questions I have is around cooling. Is it worth spending the extra hundreds of $$ for hydrolux cooling or is it simply a "for looks" kind of thing? I like a good looking PC just like the next guy but if its unnecessary then I'm willing to not spend on the extra costs. Although the hardline hydrolux looks absolutely SICK! Overall looking for suggestions here on a SOLID config for what I'm wanting to do without having to worry about running into problems. Appreciate the help! Your Primary drive is a SATA SSD. I think you should change out to a Seagate M.2 Firecuda NVMe SSD. They run off the PCIe bus and when joined to a PCIe gen 4 AMD mobo they are more than 5 times faster than SATA. They out-perform the Gen 3 Samsung NVMe drives on an AMD setup.
No one needs Hydrolux strictly for cooling. The all-in-one dual fan CPU cooler is far more than adequate. The custom loop is purely for looks, and can be a major PITA in my opinion. Since you went AMD, you may want to look hard at the Radeon 6800 XT coming out tomorrow. I'm not selling the card, it's just that the 3080s are quite backed up supply-wise everywhere. The two cards are about neck and neck, just in slightly different ways. When DS gets a batch of those, they may be able to supply you faster. IDK, but they should cost about the same.

Thanks for the feedback Cretae! Here's hoping DS will get the 6800 XT as an option for the build. Outside of the primary storage and graphics would you say this is a solid build for what I'm looking to achieve? Would there be any suggestions on an even less expensive build that will support the gaming and 1440 monitor I'm looking to use?
Also, from other posts here I'm seeing that ASUS has terrible CS should something ever go wrong with the mobo. Would it be worth using MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON over the asus I selected? Below is the new build based on your suggestions (minus the radeon 6800xt). Thoughts? Your first build did have the MSI. Personally, I like them, but it has been a long while since we had a complaint on any board here.
I don't think you could do much better pricewise. You do know you get a $300 discount for going over $3000? In at $2917 on a heckova rig. Either GPU will be juuust fine!

Thanks again for the helpful info Cretae! Will probably see what DS has planned for black friday coming up. Pretty sure this is the build I plan on going with. Open to hearing any other thoughts or suggestions!

Thanks again for the suggestions! Ended up going with the below build. Glad you said something about the Radeon 6800 XT. Seems to be a stout option compared to the GeForce 3080 and 3090. Can't wait to unpackage this bad boy! Likes like a good machine will be coming your way.
Watched several bench mark videos on YT today about the 680XT vs nVidia 3070, 3080 and 3090. Like to see where the new AMD card fits in. They did not do any benchmarks on the 6800 yet. At resolutions of 1080p and 1440p, the 6800XT holds it's own against the 3080, flip flopping a few fps depending on game title. Still though, all reviewers I saw today said if you want game at 4k or really like Ray Tracing, then nVidia is still the route to go as AMD just entered the RT arena and need to catch up. |

It is so great the card showed up on the Configurator on the first day!
I have seen several comparisons showing the 3080 and the 6800 XT neck and neck across the board. I think you would never tell the difference, but I do think the 6000 cards may be a better choice for AMD boards. The 6900 XT comes out on Dec 8th. It likewise shows comparable performance with the RTX 3090 at 4K, at $5-600 cheaper! These results may not be across the board when all the facts are in, but everything AMD has achieved with these cards, especially in memory bandwidth and lower latency, is massively impressive. So far the two lines look like a toss-up. That is a great build, stevo1999!
