First off I want to apologize because I am "computer challenged".
When Nehalem is released it will use a new socket LGA1366, right?
Will this motherboard be good for subsequent iterations of Nehalem? Or will we be looking at a different motherboard in short order.
I have been waiting for Nehalem because I was concerned about getting a computer with a mb that could not be CPU upgraded in the future. I am a "senior gamer" on a limited budget and need to know the unit will last me awhile. The sucky economy is not helping BTW.
The special deals that Alex posted are very tempting, but again concerns about getting an obsolete mobo.

Nehalem will come in two sockets: LGA 1366 and LGA 1160.
The LGA 1366 socket is using QPI and will be the first to release in November 2008. LGA 1160 will be using MPI which will be released in 2009. Both sockets should last at least 2 years as we do not know if sandybridge will be using a new socket as of yet. |

Sandy Bridge is suppose to come out after Westmere
Westmere comes out in 2010 and will be using socket LGA 1366, same socket as Bloomfield. so if you go with that socket, you could update till 2012 from what I can tell. after that Sandy Bridge will probably comeout in 2012 or 2013 socket LGA 1160 is more for Mainstream desktop and Value desktop, it will not have an exteme chips. where as Bloomfield (socket LGA 1366)is the one that will have the extreme chips and so will Westmere. Hope that clears it up a bit more Edited by DST4ME - 21 Sep 2008 at 3:27pm |

I will be first in line to get kick #$%$# Nehalem DSO computer. My poor decrepit Dell Dimension 8200 will be 6 years old on November.
I have been lurking here for over a year. First trying to save $ for a unit, then when I had the money Nehalem info started.
This may be a once in a lifetime purchase for me so I want to do it right.

Personally, I'm waiting till at least Sandy Bridge in 2011. Everything i've seen seems to point to Nehalem not getting nearly as big a performance boost as some people think it will get. My QX9650 should beat what comming out early next year anyway.

LoL, I'm sorry but that just not gonna happen, Nehalem will kill anything that is out right now. but if you just got a PC, no point in buying another one

Not according to the early benches i have been reading; i'd say 10% more performance on average, much less on games then in other apps though. By most everyones agreement, a 2.66 i7 will be around equad to a 3.0 Quad. Is that really worth spending a few hundred extra dollars?
Maybe the better use of DDR3 helps it out, but i think i7 is just a minor stepping stone, testing out intels new memory controller than anything else.

Westmere comes in 2009 and Sandybridge in 2010.
The downside to Nehalem is that X58s will be $300+ and DDR3 4GB will be $200+ |

westmere will not comeout in 2009, it was schedulaed for 2011, past week or so there has been a rumore of possibly H1 or H2 of 2010, but trust me, it will come out 2011
I'm not sure what the big deal is with the Sandy Bridge and its 6 cores, cause if it does come out in 2011, Haswell will come out in 2012 with its 8 cores Edited by DST4ME - 23 Sep 2008 at 3:47pm |

Westmere was never scheduled for 2011. It has always been Q4 2009 or Q1 2010 and unless Intel pulls an AMD, it's still on schedule for release.

skyR, you care to put some money on that? I'd love to take you money when it does not come out in 2009 or H1 of 2010.
If they are early it will be H2 of 2010, if they are on time it will be 2011, its been scheduled for 2011 till recently it got changed to H1 or H2 of 2010 |

tick tock happens every year for Intel.
everything (IDF, slides, public statements, roadmaps) point to 2009/2010 for Westmere. Unless Intel wants to become the next AMD, they aren't going to sit through 2009 and 2010 doing nothing. A die-shrink does not require 2+ years, if you release a die-shrink after 2+ years like AMD, you deserve to go bankrupt. Show me something that shows Westmere scheduled for 2011 because there is no logical sense in that date. Edited by skyR - 23 Sep 2008 at 4:42pm |

You know that is the difference between us, you are always quoting others I'm telling cause...well lets just say I know people.
Also all those sites you mention, keep changin their roadmaps, its not like they stick with one, as they get info they adjust it. Now you are so right, how about backing it up with money

You know people? What proof is there? How do you know I don't know people?
I quote from others but you quote from nothing... jeesh I wonder who's is more reliable. |

my proof is in my money, money talks BS walks, if you check Chinese sits also which your sources are getting their info from, then you will see a different story.
You are so right, then put up the money. I can't post a road-map from your sites if they have updated it and I'm sure they have and you know they are updated, so you know damn well once the new time line is out, the road map is updated too, so what is there to post? now put up your money, or stop repeating some body else whom you don't even know. you rely on your sites and you call that reliable?
ever do your own research man, or do you just always repeat what somebody else told you? Edited by DST4ME - 23 Sep 2008 at 4:55pm |

According to you, your unnamed source is more reliable than Intel's own executives...
So why would I make a bet that I know you won't live up to when you can't even provide a source to your in-logical statement? |

My source is somebody I know, not some site, BTW you don't talk to know Intel execs, cause:
they would have told you that Westmere was due for H2 if 2010/ H1 2011 So please don't act like you know any Intel execs, cause your statements clear state that you don't know any execs and are just repeating what you have read on other sites. Sorry I didn't know that Intel execs weren't at the IDF. I'm not going to argue with a person as ignorant as you anymore.
If you are going to come up with some bullsh*t next time, at least make it logical. |

Money talks BS walks
you walkin? Also I don't understand what your problem is, I know intel has moved up Westmere to H1 of 2010, but it was never gonna come out in 2009, it was gonna be 2011. now you have your sources that you say is right and I have mine. I'm willing to backup what I say with money, can you? as for logic, I'm sorry I can't talk logic with some who thinks that a chip that has a tdp of 135 is the same as one that has a tdp of 95, is that the kind of logic you are talking about? so if I were you I would stop with the logic bs. according to your logic but say 2 years ago, I should be playing with my nehalem as we speak, but its not even out is it?
