Hi folks, been a while since I was here.  It was back in 2012 when I ordered a Bolt L4.  I just ordered a new Avon L4.

Here is my question. With the two 1 TB SSD drives, how do you set it so the program is on the "C" drive and the data automatically goes to the "D" drive?

On my Bolt, 256 SSD "C" and 1 TB HDD, many times the videos or pictures or "other stuff" ends up on the "C" drive.

I now have WAY more memory than I will probably ever need, but would still like to have the drives dedicated to programs for "C" and data for "D".

Are there any universal settings to do this or do I have to make the instructions in each program?

Thanks.
Arne

I see there is little/no discussion on this laptop computer -- the AVON.  Is that because it is new (don't know when it came out), or because it is a 4K display and no one is going for 4K?  Is it that bad of an idea?

Starting to get concerned that I've "popped" for a poor combination.

Also, so much of the entire forum is 2/3 or even more years since the original post and even some replies are from way back when.  I feel like Rip Van Winkle and have just waken up so I can find out what went on several years ago.

PS Ocamm,  thanks for the reply.  I have sent 2 requests to "management" but no reply yet.  I know they must be catching up from the holiday weekend so am trying to be patient.

With the above 4K question being one of them, I just hope they respond soon so if I need to change the basic computer to a 1080 one it'll still be early enough to change.

I even tried calling several times but just got a "busy" signal.

Based on the resolving ability of the human eye, it is possible to estimate when 4k resolution will become apparent. A person with 20/20 vision can resolve 60 pixels per degree, which corresponds to recognizing the letter “E” on the 20/20 line of a Snellen eye chart from 20 feet away.  for a 17" laptop screen you'd have to be less than a foot away to even see the difference 4k offers.  i personally don't see the benefit (considering all of the drawbacks) of 4k on any screen under 30".

edit: even outputting it to a 55" 4k tv, the tv would have to be within 3 feet for a person with 20/20 vision to see all of the detail.  most people watch tv from a distance of 9 feet.

Hi Amoe,

With Win-10 you can go into settings and search for Drives. A list will come up and click on Default Save Locations. You can specify where you want files, Document, videos and others saved to. This should solve your problem.

db,  Thank you for that information!!  I just changed my order to the Harker will  the same configuration as the original Avon.  Just a larger 1080 screen.  Been worrying about that question all weekend.  DS was kind enough to make the change no problem.

Frank,

Thanks for that information.  I don't believe that option was available in W7, or at least I didn't ever find it.  So Thanks again.

Glad to help. I find Win-10 very easy to make changes or find settings.

Glad to hear you were able to get what you were looking for. A 4K display on a laptop is really beautiful, but it requires a ton of processing power. If you're the type that enjoys watching 4K videos, or graphics design (or just love to look at really detailed valid images) then a 4K display makes sense.

When it comes to gaming on a 4K laptop display, it's a challenge, you might have to turn down visual settings as it won't be easy to push that much power (unless you're playing games like World of Warcraft or League of Legends).

Thanks all.  I just had an "itch" over the weekend that I couldn't scratch about the 4K screen that I originally ordered.  Yesterday, I made the switch to a Harker with the 1080 screen, itch gone.

Thanks DS.
