Looking for some input on heat/power/noise, if anyone has any lateral changes that would save me a few bucks too, that would be great! (i may remove the custom cables or lighting, but they look so cool).... Also curious about the liquid cooling front. It says no maintenance, but is it 100% no maintenance? I had my last PC for 7 years and I am hoping to make this one last a similar duration without having to mess with the liquid cooling. Adhoc: I am looking for a new 144 hz, 27 in, 1440p monitor. I am currently using an old dell u2312hm (powered by a gtx 670). I have tried a few monitors on my old pc with mixed results. - Dell S2716DG - Great response time/lack of blur in fast paced shooters, but had bad color (dull or saturated depending on settings) - ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q - great colors and games looked great but experienced a bit of motion blur in games with quick reactions. Both of these were being powered by a gtx 670 and have basically the same specs (tn vs ips exempt), so i dont think improving my pc would solve any issues there but what do i know. Anyone have suggestions for someone that is as picky as I on the monitor front? Thanks in Advance everyone!!!! Edited by GeoffyC - 27 Oct 2018 at 2:52pm |

Hi GeoffyC, Welcome back. The aio (all in one cooler) is maintenance free as long as the pump works and there are no leaks. If any of those happen (very unlikely) you change the whole thing. Other than that ....... As to the monitor, you might want to give the PG278QR. Its a TN panel and quicker than the IPS PG279Q. Don't have any experience or knowledge regarding any other 1440 monitor . Keep us posted.

I recently purchased the PG279Q and would take an IPS over TN any day. Colors and resolution trump any motion blur for me. Color, etc is always there, blur only sporadically.

+1 Have the same monitor and love it. Also had the PG278QR and it was very very good but the 279 has better colors and blacks IMO. Just mention it because it is faster than the IPS panel. I've never seen blur but maybe I do and think its part of the game.

Ever looking to save users some dough, I'm wondering about the 2080 Ti. I've read recently some reviewers consider the 2070 the ideal 1440p card, but I know you're looking for longevity, so I'm gonna pitch the 2080. It'll save you $525, and average frame rates at 1440p are far in excess of 60 for every game you can name. (Average "in 15 games" was 111 fps.)
You can look at benchmarks yourself and decide, but we both should agree that your video card is not going to be working that well in seven years. My question is why spend for overkill when you're almost bound to upgrade in a few years anyway? Just a thought. In any case, I can't recommend you overclock the video card. They are pretty hot as it is, and oc adds heat without giving you anything you can see. In that slim case, you'll just end up with an unpleasant thermal environment. Yeah I was back and forth on the 2080 and 2080Ti, It is tough one for me because i want it to last but i think that the increase in fps for the 2080ti is what I am looking for (I plan on dragging this out for another 5 or so years before an upgrade).
Interested in your note about the OC on the Graphics though. I was not too worried about overclocking the card, but then it said it was both free and that temperature was one of the factors in stability they were looking for. Is there a longevity issue you are concerned with on this? Edited by GeoffyC - 28 Oct 2018 at 9:34am |

DS is expert at overclocking, no doubt. There is always a concern about longevity when you stress parts. What I'm saying is that you have already made a major investment in upping your frame rates from great to excellent. Overclocking not only puts that investment at unnecessary risk, but will increase temps within your case for every other part. What you'll get for all that, is 127 fps may go to 131 fps. You'll never see the benefit, but it may cost you. Safe rather than sorry. Up to you.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I will take off the OC on the Graphics. Thanks!
