I am looking to join the DS family since my real family disowned me years ago. Is it better to get a higher end ODE or a middle line Dreadnought?

I am looking for a gaming multi purpose comp that will be decent for years to come..

Thanks in Advance

Hi Munkee213..... Welcomt to the forums.

I would suggest the Dreadnought level 2 with a couple of changes.

If this is mainly gaming on a single 1920x1080 monitor with just light everyday activity, no video editing, rendering, etc. then change processor to the 3570k cpu.

Change the cpu cooler to the Noctua D14 for tops in cooling, reliability and quiet.

For just under $2000 this gives you, compared to a ODE 3 for example, a better case, better motherboard with longer warranty and sli capable and a better cooler.

The gtx 670 in the Dreadnought lvl 2 is very close in performance to the gtx680 in ODE 3 for alot less money.

Don't forget the free t-shirt.   Good luck and hope this helps.

I will be running dual monitors with 1920x1080.

I plan to play the regular gamut of games, D3 Call of Duty. MMOs as well as RTS.
I plan to buy at ultra settings.

It will be used semi aggressively on a daily basis.

I plan to use a 120 SSD with the 1tb Black HD also

If you want ultra settings on some of the heavy shooters or heavily populated MMOs on dual monitor you'll need at least the ODE level 4 with its sli, 2x gtx 670 to keep fps in the 50s or better.    Even a sli gtx 670 for ultra with some games will drop into the 40 fps at times.

Or a custom build for more $$$.      For your budget I would add a little and go for the ODE level 4.

Here's a link that'll give you good idea of what the single gtx 670 can do.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/598

For most games, the single gtx 670 will play great.at your resolution on single monitor.

If you never plan on sli and the 5 year warranty on mobo isn't important, the LX mobo with a 3 year warranty can save you some money.    The ODE 3 for a bit more with LX mobo does give you a larger hdd, blu-ray player and the gtx 680 for 5-10% better gaming.

Lots of ways to go.

Thanks. I'll post up a build and see what can be tweaked. I usually aim for a slight overkill so I don't have to upgrade every year.

I am looking for a multi purpose rig that can handle all of todays games at the near highest level.

I am planning to run at 1920x1080 on dual monitors. I probably wont be running both monitors in game. I do like to multi task though

If this GPU isnt strong enough, can someone point me in the right direction

If , like you said, you want to run Ultra settings with all games, and keep the fps in the 50's and 60's then the sli, 2x gtx 670 is needed.  Just turning a few settings down, like aa for example, will make a big difference in frame rates with little difference in visuals on a 1920x1080 monitor.

You could get the build you just put together, which is very good, and see if you're happy. I think you will be.  If, not, then add a second 670 later on yourself.  Pretty easy to do.

The only other path for better than the single 670 is the single 680, but the difference is only 5-10% better gaming.

Hope this helps.

A night out on the town and a dozen roses are always good for building wife points. Ninja
All evil comes from within,

Therefore, the 1st step on the Holy Warrior path,
Is to recognize thyself as thy 1st enemy.
