Here's my latest build; HAF932 i7 950 3.06ghz asus sabertooth x58 6gb ddr3 1600mhz 750w psu 1tb hitach hd gtx480 noctua NH-U12P air cooling overclock to 3.9ghz overclock video card It'll be used for gaming and watching movies. 4 questions, #1) Is there a big difference in gtx470 vs. 480? Is gtx470 fairly old model? Can you play brand new games (max setting) with gtx470? I don't want to spent extra $200 for 480 if there is no significant upgrade between them. #2) Is it a good idea to have 2nd hd where you can install all your games and other applications? I don't want to clog up the pc with all the games and so on. If I decided to go with 2 hds, what will be the good build to have? #3) Is noctua NH-U12P on my build enough to handle the overclocking DS offers for free upgrade? #4) Will 750w psu be enough if I wanted to add 2nd gpu later? Thanks for any input. |

1 yes there is a big difference, as far as if its worth it... right now the 470 has come down in price, but the 480 has not. so its a big price gap, $210 i think... tough to jusitfy that, your best bet on that one is to just read reviews on the 2 and see if you think its worth the cost to you. the market is in a wierd place right now
2 only if you want to use a SSD... but its a better idea to just be intelligent and clean up your system regularly 3 yes 4 a 2nd 470? technically yes, but its pushing it. not a 2nd 480.

Thanks a lot for your info. I have some follow-up questions though.
#1) Is 470 considered older technology? What I meant was, is it still regarded as newer gpu buy? #4) is 750w enough to handle video cards that will come out later years? |

Well, you could of just Googled the release date, but no it is still newer tech, only a few months old.
Enough to handle single GPUs for years to come, yes. Will not support two higher end GPUs though. |

Here's seemingly a stupid question.
If I installed games onto an external hd, will the games perform the same as if they would on pc's internal hd? |

It's not the space limit issue. Rather, I want to keep my pc as clean as possible, so if could get the same performance from the external hd then I don't have to install/uninstall on the pc itself.

Maybe I wasn't clear what I was saying. I do not care about saving space. I just don't want to install anything on my brand new pc. I want to keep it as pristine as possible.

maybe im not getting through to you:
do not install any game/program/application on an external drive, they are for storage of static items like pictures and movies

By the way, does DSO do the up-to-date driver upgrades for all the components, such as mb, video card and so on?

DSO Updates drivers and BIOS but does not do Windows Updates.
As for keeping your system clean, your best bet is to do what I do. One drive for the Operating system and drivers etc. One Drive for the Applications and Games, and one drive for storage. Make them all separate internal drives and you can keep things nice and clean and tidy. Ender is right, external HD's are best used for backup/archive and storage for Static files like pictures, movies and mp3's, even using USB3 the internal SATA connected drives will be a lot faster.
