Hi all,
My last gaming setup has more than paid its dues and I'm looking forward to being able to play something with higher specs at last. I'd be very grateful for someone with a more discerning eye to look over my build. Although I started with the Vanquish, I’ve played around with that and the Bolt 3, no serious preference here. Budget: $3000 including peripherals Expectations: A quiet gaming PC with good sound quality, seamless graphics and space for my music library (about 400GB). Ideally capable of playing new titles for the next 5 years or so. I haven’t settled on a monitor, suggestions are very welcome. Usage: Playing Dark Souls III, the Witcher III, Pillars of Eternity, Tides of Numenera etc (this is why I’m trying hard to find the balance between future proofing and overkill for the current stuff I’m playing). Also some light work, surfing, photo and sound editing. Special Needs: I live in Switzerland. I contacted DS sales a couple of months ago regarding voltage and shipping but haven’t heard back. Someone on the forums already asked, but I have no clue if they ended up purchasing. For the same reasons, I’d also prefer to avoid any future upgrades on cards etc. that would require DS’s direct involvement (e.g., modifying the cooling liquid). Hi Ashtoreth... That Vanquish build looks good. The SSD and HDD are a good pick and the EVGA gtx 1070 is also the way to go.
Big unknown and a decision to be made before you order, is the monitor's resolution. A 1920x1080 will pair nicely with the gtx 1070 and max most games. If you want high end gaming with a 2560x1440 monitor then you'll want the gtx 1080. This or the Bolt 3 is up to you, but to me, the Bolt is for space issues or you just want to get away from the larger towers, although the Bolt 3 isn't all that much smaller, except width. It will be harder to work on. The power supply input is auto switching from 100v to 240v AC. DS will have to quote you import duties, etc for anything sent out of the country. Hope this helps. Hope Ashtoreth doesn't mind me jumping in on his thread...
I am looking at purchasing the same build, with the exception of getting the GTX 1080 (for 2560X1440 resolution). A big concern for me is the Stage 1 air cooling being enough cooling. My previous DS rig has stage 2 and I wanted to go the same route, but it's no longer offered. I noticed bprat22 didn't have any other suggestion here, so I can assume it's sufficient? Sorry if I sound paranoid, but want to be sure before I "pull the trigger". Thanks!! Edit; hmmm...I'm not a newbie. Guess the forums reset after a period of time.
