There are tons of these I see on here, but all are relatively unique. As such, I am posting...

I am looking to build a new custom PC for gaming. I am looking to balance performance & functionality as well as future-proofing (if such a thing is possible) against budget. I am trying to keep the system under $3,000. I have done a bit of research into things like processors, gpu, cpu, boards, etc., but truth-be-told, I don't know anywhere near enough to be confident in what I set up. As such, if you could look at the build below and provide any feedback, I would appreciate it.

This is a Digital Storm forums and run by them.

Have you priced the Vanquish level 4 as a comparison ?     And what monitor resolution are you gaming on ?   That determines the video card.

For gaming you don’t need 32gig ram.   I wouldn’t get a Bronze rated 1000 watt psu.   Single gpu setup only needs a quality 750 watt psu.

Thanks for the reply. I did not realize this site is a builder. I "googled" custom PC forums this came up. I will certainly run a build through these guys to see how they price out.

The monitors I am using are 1920 x 1080 full HD.

For 1080 p monitor, a gtx 1070 will max everything out.

I suggest checking out the Vanquish level 3 for a best bang for your buck build.

If the Vanquish doesn’t have everything you want, any of the other custom build, like Lumos for example , give you a lot of options.

Also consider customer setvice after the fact.   DS stands out from the others. This is why myself and others have been here for years.

You couldn't pay me to buy ftom the company you looking at.

There is a reason there are so many customers here on this forums.

As bp said for 1080p all you want is a 1070.

The way you get best bang for the buck is to get what maxes your monitor. Also consider quality of the parts, workmanship, customer service and customer reviews.

For example that psu you listed is probably crap, cooler is not great, blue wd sucks, noise package is pointless, and like i said you can't pay me enough to buy from them, have you seen the complaints they have?

Terenn, welcome to our forums. We are dedicated to helping you achieve your very best gaming experience at the very best price. There is no point in spending on the latest and greatest if you don't need it. That way you save a ton of $$ to upgrade later with! Take a look around and see all the options we have here.

I just got my second DS system delivered to me today, and it's fantastic! My first one lasted me over seven years, without ANYTHING failing! I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Top three things in a boutique builder are... in order:

#1 - Customer Service
#2 - Customer Service
#3 - Customer Service

Also, "Customer Service" almost cracked the top 3. It was close, though.

(This is why we buy from DS. You can build cheaper, but you can't build better service.)

As several have suggested, I went forward and quoted as close to comprable (considering my uneducated level of knowledge) system as possible. The build is at the bottom. A couple of notes:

- Yes, I kept the GTX 1080 Ti despite that my current monitors are only 1080p. I can see an upgrade to 4K and/or incorporating VR in the not-to-distant future, especially considering feedback here.

- I also kept the 32GB RAM (vs 16GB as suggested). 1) To future-proof, and 2) to keep the comparison as apt as possible.

- I did downsize the PS to 750 Watts.

- I couldn't find an internal 12-in-1 media reader to add.

- I couldn't add a 2nd optical drive.

There is about a $430 difference (plus the reduced PS, no optical or media reader). I am willing to pay more for service, but 16% more... Am I missing something?

Let me start by saying a few things

1. All pc parts are not the same, even within a same brand different models vary in quality and performance.

2. i can't compare evga's high rated modular psu with a psu that we don't even know the brand/model and thus performance /quality.

3. #2 goes for all parts.

4. How much do you want to bet that the 750w you have chosen here is better than the 1000w over there? Remember #2? This 750w psu is gold rated, that psu is bronze rated, gold is better rating for starters.

There is no comparing here, even if everything was the same, which it is not, at the end the builder reputation is not the same at all.

What is this oc for? If it is gaming what is the native resolution of your monitor?

Thanks for the feedback. The computer is multi-function - I will be using it for gaming - I play (or want to play) Star Wars Battlefront 2, EVE, WoW, Star Citizen (someday maybe if they ever finish it) now, but haven't been able to try other titles (including SWBF2) due to current system limitations. It will also be used for "household" stuff such as MS Office-type applications Quicken, etc. There will also be limited-to-moderate video and picture editing via Adobe Creative Suite.

Native resolution on the 2 monitors I have now are 1920 x 1080. I haven't moved into something more due to system limitations, but would see a UHD (i.e. 3840 x 2160) purchase after this.

Your monitor resolution is a very important factor in what you pick out 8n your system.

A setup for 1080p isa bit different than 4k. Also the refresh rate (60hz vs 144hz)

So what would you like to build for? 1080p?or 4k? Also 60hz or 144hz?

If I build out for two monitors @ 2560 x 1440 at 144Hz, will there be an issue with running lower-quality monitors on it temporarily... It looks like monitors will set back another $1000 (for 2).

You xan run any monitor, the issue will be gaming performance but that gets bad ad you go up not down.

In short in yiur system is setup to max gaming at 4k, then it will do great in gaming at 4k, 1440p or 1080p,

But if your system is setup to max games at say 1080p then it won't max at 1440p or do good at 4k.

Building for one 1440p monitor is pretty much the same as 2 x 1440p.

I assume what you are asking is to build a system for dual 1440p but fir now you have a 1080p that you will use. If that is the case and you are sure the new 2 monitors are coming in next 9 months then let's do it, otherwise i suggest waiting to get monitors and then upgrade gpu.

Look at Amazon or newegg for your accessories for better prices, mouse, speaker, etc.

You can run two different monitors on 1 gpu. No issues here. Running a Samsung 24" 1080p for work and an Asus 27" 1440 for play. You pick in the NVIDIA Control Panel which monitor will be primary and such.
