I have some minor/dumb questions. People who post a lot of builds here seem to favor the HAF 932? Is there any advantage over the 950Si, or does it just look better when you pimp out your rig? Are the GTX 260 (216 cores) the newer 55 nm fab or the original 65?
I understand that people’s perception of a noisy pc is subjective but I’d appreciate your opinions anyway. I am concerned about overclocking v temp v noise. I expect there to be noise, maybe a lot. I currently have a GTX 9800+ and its real noisy when under load, but I game with headphones anyway. My point is: I want DS to oc my i7 but not to full capacity. I know the oc is variable, depending on the chip. So, if they can oc my chip to 3.4, I’d rather it was dialed back to 3.2, for example. My thinking is that there should be less heat and so less noise. (A higher oc will produce more heat and need better cooling?) I have read that the Zalman performance fans are better for cooling, but noisier, which is why I didn't select them. Keep in mind that I plan on adding 3G more RAM down the line and will eventually add another GTX260 in SLI. I am thinking ahead to when I have all this in the case, especially the heat and noise of the second card. I do not want to liquid cool.
Thanks

I have a i7 920 o/c to 3.78 (w/ turbo enabled) with V8 air cool, R2E board and HAF case (did not upgrade those fans). Started with 1 GTX 260 and added another after a month or so.
Correct, noise is subjective and I was informed that the HAF is noisier than I might be prepared for, however I don't find it an issue at all. The R2E has a "turbo" fan setting that cranks up the V8 fan when needed - but not that loud. Most noise is from the GPUs. When not gaming I keep the fans to around 50% and then crank it up when gaming. That does raise the noise level however I don't notice it when I'm in the game even without headphones. there is a lot of misinformation so let me clear it all up.
90% of the noise from your system will not come from the haf, ocing the cpu, etc. etc., your noise comes from the fans of your gpu card. in this case your 260+ is going to produce 90% of your noise. HAF has superior cooling that is why I recomend it, I don't recommend anything on looks, I recommend based on getting most performance for your money. 950si is the one that has no advantage but some like its looks. here you go Ticket# 263245 --- Price: $2437 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2287 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Mushkin (Highly Recommended) (Digital Storm Certified) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (216 Cores) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty I gave you the 6GB of ram now, and kept the price lower then yours, you had one dvd reader/writer then the second one is a reader, the second one has no point, so I changed it to a reader/writer also, if you don't need 2 dvd drives then drop one, there is no point to having just a reader , I have you with a 500GB HDD, if you need more room add another 500GB the price difference between the 500 and 320 is very little
