Hi All. Over the past year or so, I've been looking at buying a new computer for some gaming purposes, and for the first time in about 10 years, looking online for a pre-built model. Luckily, I had a roommate to do all the dirty work for me, so now I'm blindly looking for a new build. I was looking at the Renegade L3, possibly with an overclock and diff. cooling mechanism. I didn't really save a configuration, because quite frankly, I dno't know what I'd really want to customize/upgrade. Essentially, I'm looking for something to run for a couple of years (if I'm lucky) without any serious upgrading, within a 1500$ budget. As far as the games I play/would play, nothing as far as MMO's go, but probably your typical FPS games like CoD. Any advice would help, and I'll fill in the details if needed. Thanks!

What res you gonna be gaming at?
for that budget we would have a hard time beating ode 1 's price. Edited by DST4ME - 09 Aug 2011 at 6:53pm |

Honestly, I can't even tell you. It's been about a year or so since I loaded up any game on my PC since I couldn't run the latest CoD on it without getting frame rates of something lower than 3. If I had to guess, it would be at 1280*1024...widescreen LCD. So when i look at the ODE 1 compared to the Renegade Lvl 3, other than the small difference in price, is there anything that sticks out that says one is better than the other for just the casual gamer? And I'm just guessing, but each system is pretty much turnkey/plug and play?

Well lets see the ode has a oc of 4.8GHz, Renegade L3 has 3.9Ghz. ode is much faster.
ode has cpu cooler, Renegade L3 does not. ode has 600t white for case, Renegade L3 has cm 430, 600t is a much better case. ode 1 is a lot more pc for your money. What is the native resolution of the monitor you gonna be gaming at? |

Ah okay. Goodstuff. Desktop rez is at the 1280*1024, that's why I was thinking that would be the rez for w/e games I end up playing (which is actually how I remembed the DSO name). So, i5 v i7 proc...not much of a difference for my situation? or does the OC for the ODE proc allow more flexibility? Hope that makes sense.

That is a very low res, cpu makes a good difference in that res, also think about future performance also, right now the 2600k is what you want.
cpu is the brain of your pc, its speed is your pcs speed. ocing the cpu increases the cpu speed, which means that your pc can think faster and do things much faster. |

So, in your opinion, getting the ODE 1 is the best bet current and for future (1-2 years down the road)? I doubt my gaming will increase any more, and outside of some FPS's, the only games I've stayed loyal to are the Total War series which aren't too intensive. If that's the case, I'll give it a go.

Hi Shakeweight,
Are you saying the native resolution of your monitor is 1280x1024 or that you have your monitor set at 1280x1024 to play games? You should play at the native resolution of the monitor. This is important and I wanted to make sure we have the numbers right. Frank |

Hi people...so I received my box today, and have it up and running. I was wondering what a decent temperature to be running at would be, as well as a preferred software to check. Also, is there a way to check what speed my CPU is running at? I understand that it is overclocked, but I was just curious. Thanks.

load temps only count, to check that you have to put the part you are monitoring under full stress.
load temps under 85c are fine, anything over is not acceptable. to stress both cpu and gpu/s use fah follow my fah guide here you can use other app to stress but I find fah to do both cpu and gpu and I have not seen anything that stress to full extent like the fah does. to check temps on cpu and gpu HWMonitor to check cpu speed CPU-z |
