Hello guys,

I am new here. Happy to be a (soon to be) member of the Digital Storm club.

Just placed my order, and waiting patiently.

My build is `3872002`, however does anybody have any experience with the Ryzen 9, with regards to virtualization (ESXi, proxmox, etc.), parallel computing, and AI, compared to Intel i9 counterparts?

I chose AMD this round simply to try something a bit different, and the performance is where I would (or should) like it, coming from the i9-7980XE DIY which has lasted me years.

Congratulations and welcome to DS.

That is some system that you have configured! With 2 RTX 3090s! They are today's Titans and if you are doing intensive processing you will probably use them but (and Cretae will love me for this) for gaming I have to state that only one of those babies is necessary (even for 4K) and I love sli!

I was also surprised to learn that the X570 Godlike (AMD) does not have an Aquantia AQC107 10Gb ethernet port like the Z490 Godlike (Intel).
Enjoy. Smile

Btw don't know how inventory is running nowadays but those parts are real slow to get.

Have a look here:

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-10980XE-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-5950X/m935899vs4086https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-10980XE-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-5950X/m935899vs4086

User Benchmark quotes CPUPro:

"The 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 5950X is an impressive workhorse. It sits at the top of AMD’s latest Zen 3 based, 5000 series of CPUs and sends a clear message that AMD can beat Intel in terms of raw performance and core count. The 5950X has a boost clock speed of up to 4.9 GHz, a massive 72 MB cache and a TDP rating of 105W. Despite the clear “gaming” focus of AMD’s 5000 series launch marketing, the 5950X does not efficiently leverage all its 16 cores in gaming (as demonstrated by similar effective speed scores compared to the 12-core 5900X, 8-core 5800X and 6-core 5600X.) 16 cores are only suitable for professional use cases that have CPU processing needs which cannot be more efficiently met by a GPU or other dedicated hardware. There is no Intel equivalent with this number of cores, and the 5950X’s uniqueness is reflected in its $799 USD price tag, 45% more expensive than the 5900X. Gamers will get far higher FPS per dollar by allocating a higher proportion of their budget towards a better GPU rather than blowing $799 USD on the 5950X. Professional users that plan to use 32 concurrent threads at 100% load will find value in the 5950X. On the other hand, workstation users that rarely exceed 20 concurrent threads at 100% should consider the 10850K for around half the money. [Nov '20 CPUPro]"

I think that answers the question. The brand new i9-11900K gaming chip runs slightly faster, but with only 8 cores, can't hope to compete with the AMD 5950X in heavy number crunching. You have chosen very wisely.

Thanks guys.

I feel better with the Ryzen 9 choice. My need is two fold - career and relaxation, so best of both worlds is needed.

It was unfortunate the Ethernet is only 5G, but the add-on card is cheap enough.

I was quoted 30 - 35 days for shipping, so we will see!

I kept on checking and the X-570 Godlike comes bundled with a separate card with the 10Gb LAN. It should be installed by DS so call and cancel that one you ordered.
Saves you a coulpe of $$.
