Hello all,
The time has come for me to get a new PC. I've had a bolt 2 (980ti and 6700k) since 2015. It has served me well. In fact I can still get almost all my basic stuff done on my current computer. However, when I try and play games like CSGO my system overheats in a matter of seconds. Same with WoW but I don't play WoW as much as CSGO. I am looking for guidance on my next build. I know I want to get the 3080 but I can't decide on the processor. My Intel 6700x has been very reliable but I'm thinking to switch over to AMD. To all you forum gurus, I am trying to decide between a 5600x and a 5800x. Could someone make a recommendation? I checked out some youtube videos and for gaming there dont seem to be a big difference between 5600x and 5800x. I play CSGO at 1024 X 768 (black bars). I use google chrome to browse the internet and use Excel a lot. I am a programmer by trade but I have a laptop for that so don't care much about programming on my desktop. TIA. |

For CPU, go with the 5600X. Of course, you can get the RTX 3080, however, it's going to be quite overkill for your current demands. While graphics card availability and pricing are slowly improving, they're by no means MSRP. Basically, it's not great to future proof by much (if at all) at the moment.
Some relevant demos: Apex Legends | RTX 3060 Ti + Ryzen 5 5600x | 1080p - 240 Hz | RX 580 (YouTube) This is the OLDEST CPU I have... Is it usable in 2021?? | JayzTwoCents (YouTube) (With a GTX 1660 on a decade old platform, CSGO performance ranges from about 50 to 100 FPS.) In fact, I would recommend you go with a setup at least similar to what I suggested recently in another configuration advice thread: Gaming/Slight Productivity build Edited by MrCheetah - 24 Sep 2021 at 11:18pm |

5600X. On the AMD platform you can always upgrade, but that won't be needed for gaming IMHO.
At these prices, it only makes sense to me to buy what you need in a GPU. A 3080 is for 4k. A 3060 Ti will crush the games you play at 1080p for years. Newer GPUs are coming in a year or less, and the whole world hopes they will not cost 2.5x their MSRP. |

I really wanted to get the RGB fans but it was too expensive to just buy 1 fan for $199 :).

? Umm, please check, but I believe you get 6 RGB fans in a Lumos. 3 front, 2 top, 1 back.

Thanks. When you click on specifications it shows what's included. It said 1 fan.

Based on the specs, your system should have three RGB fans plus whatever DS may add to the rear and top mounting spots.

Thank you Cheetah and Crate. Those RGBs look pretty sweet. Since I place the order already I'll call DS and see if I can order it separately.

You should be able to. I switched around two storage devices when I was in stage 3 with no issues.

Hi all saw some reports that AMD processors are almost 10 -15% slower on windows 11. My build is for windows 10 but I eventually need to upgrade to 11. Any thoughts?

Yeah, my thought is did you read the article? It says pretty clearly, "but suggests popular lines like the 3600X and 5600X should be minimally affected". They are working on a fix they intend to have ready THIS MONTH, and the other comes as a Windows update. By the time you get Win 11, it's a non-issue.

I agree with @Cretae, it will be corrected. My guess is that Microsoft became too distracted by Intel and the need for a thread scheduler overhaul. As such, probably left the AMD optimizations for later testing.

Thank you both. I read they are minimally impacted but impacted none the less. I feel confident they will fix AMD optimization issues. My build ships with Windows 10 so I should be good to go!
