I ordered a new computer from DS yesterday. I want to thank a number of forum regulars who seem to constantly give great advice regarding different configurations and the relative bang for the buck that each one gives. I have been reading a number of posts over the past few weeks and the info from many of you has been invaluable! ( Especially DST4ME )
I was going to get a preconfigured Desktop, but a few posts convinced me to custom configure one. My config is:

I need a little larger screen because of my aging eyes, but didn't want to pop for a 30 in. I also went with the 1 T hard drive because of some large files I have and hopefully that it will be a little faster than the 500 gig with 16 MB cache. I also added the memory fan in case I want to play around with memory timing, but even if I don't I felt it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra air on the MB given that I'll be running 2x sli. Thanks to your great advice, I'm getting a system I want for only about $300 more than a preconfigued comp with much lower level parts.

Hi, this was something that I read the other day. Split that 1tb into 2 500gb's because 1tb is supposedly to hard to manage when doing things such as defragging or something like that. You can now put some files on HDD1 and some on HDD2, your welcome if I'm right, but I'd like someone correct me if I'm wrong please, I'm not 100% sure on this, because I don't want to mess up your computer it'd make me feel terrible..

How big a file are we talking that it wouldn't fit comfortably in a 500 gb drive? Caleb is right on the hard to manage thing, takes alot longer to virus scan, defrag, etc. the 1 tb drive. The cache won't matter much as far as getting files out, that's still more to do with the rpm. The 1 tb drive may actually hinder that if the files are spread out and it has to hunt them down.
Other than that, looks good.

Only thing wrong with your build is your 1TB HDD, you never want a big HDD for your OS.
go with a 500GB for HDD1 and then another 500GB for HDD2. have only OS/games/apps on HDD1 and put your other files on HDD2. other then that, you got a solid build there

Hmm. It might be too late to try and change the drive, Would it help to partition it into 2 500 gig partitions as Caleb suggested?
I have some very large records (from my medical practice ..am retired now) that I need to be able to access, that's why I got the large drive, but 2 500 gigs would work.

If necessary I'll get another drive for the OS in the near future and move the 1 T drive to a BU status.
