Hi, new here. I've been using the same computer for nearly 5 years now. It was built in Jan. of 2004. I've been noticing it's ability to not do the things I want it to do and play the games I'm trying to play.
This is my new computer and need an opinion about whether it's good. I'm going to be using it for gaming (somewhat high end) and It might last me another 3-4 years so that's why I'm getting a powerful one (it's what I consider powerful) BTW, I am only getting 1 HDD because I already have 2 external a 250 GB one and 160 GB one. Id recommend against the lycosa keyboard. I have one myself, been using it for about 4 months since i got my DS computer. The keyboard functions okay and everything.
Maybe its just cause i got greezy fingers or something lol..but i first noticed that the rubber coated keys looked 'stained' basically the oil in your fingers will eventually make it look like your most pressed keys are wet.....and then...a few months down the road the rubber will start to peal off your most used keys..
Basically the rubber is 50% off the keypad on the letters W,A,S,D. It still functions like i said...but it looks like crap now. |

As far as mouse/keyboards.......
I have the Logitech G15 keyboard and G5 mouse. It's taken me over 2 years to see any wear on the keys, a few are showing through now that it's backlit. Good keyboard and a great comfortable mouse.
AS far as monitors, I have a GATEWAY 22" widescreen monitor in HD. Great monitor. Best Buy has them on sale now for only $239. Add a 4 year replacement plan for another $39 bucks. Pretty good deal to me.

No, I don't come on once a day. Been busy. lol
My screen now is a 17'' and I play at 1280 x 1024 and I love that resolution. IF there is a better one, suggest it please. I'm using this to play games at high end graphics. My first test when I get it will be Crysis of course, all settings very high. So I DON'T get the monitor, keyboard, and mouse here? I get them at another site I'm guessing. OH! I won't be able to get this (saving the money) until about November. You can never be too early to start planning. |

go with a 24'' inch samsung (see monitor suggestions sticky in hardware discussion for more info)
go with 1x 4850x2 and the x58 mobo. You'll be really suprised on the difference between 1900x1200 and 1280 x1024. I think you'll be very pleased.

24'' inches sounds big. We have a free 22'' tv and it's big. Is 24'' really, like, good?
I'm still kinda noobish, what's x58? I heard a GTX 260 is better than 4850x2. I'm mostly going by budget. My budget is like $3000 |

Thanks but I'm actually looking to add blu ray. This computer is lasting me about 3-4 years and since more and more blu ray Discs are coming out, I'm willing to pay somewhat extra for it.
Is there a report on how much they boost your memory card, proccessor, and video card? |

with a Q9650 you can expect OC speeds of 3.8 to 4.0, but that is my idea, DS dose not guarantee any OC speeds before the build.
if you don't currently use bluray, I suggest you wait and add it later, what you pay now is gonna be lots more then what you pay in say 6 month. if not then just add the bluray to your setup |

New Chip?
BTW, I have to change cases to the 750 or antec 900 because I have a desk and instead of drawers on the right side is a giant place for a computer and a slide out thing for a mouse. It's almost 20'' but 19.4 could fit, tightly. It sucks because IF I never got this open space, I could get the good case. |

ouch, I think those are smaller boss and not so great for liquid cooling. this is gonna impact your over all out come.
you know the HAF is suppose to be 21.5" tall, but it has 4 small legs I believe, why don't you call DS and ask and see if it does have those legs, if yes, then if you remove them how tall it would be. |

well the system I had for you is liquid cooling, air won't get you the same results for OC, but if you are going with air then ya it should be fine. I will warn you that most people I have seen here get teh stage 3 they say it loud.

Maybe but it's about another $300. Then I hear I need to refill it every 6 or so months and I don't know how much liquid costs.
BTW, do you have a number I can call for removing those bottom rollers or holders? I need to ask them about it. OH, and how much does a wall outlet usually have in power? Like, I want to make sure I get a power supply that doesn't burn out my wall outlet |

you have to see what is the specs of the outlet.
to refil is like adding water to your glass, its very simple, if you have to add liquid its very little and the liquid is cheap. if you go with teh system I suggested you pay $270 more and get a pc with a speed of 3.8 or higher. the highest chip out right now is 3.2 and its $1000 more. the whole point of oc is to pay less and get lot more for it ![]() number is on top ![]() |

Huh. I need to check my box downstairs. Maybe that might have it
Ohhhhh..... I see now. I'm still kinda new with this shoping for PC stuff. I haven't done it in a while. Thanks. Will call them about removing those bottom pieces. Some people I know say Quad Core isn't nessesary yet. Are they right? I mean, I can get 3.16 GHz Dual Core or 2.5 GHz Quad. I know it's 2 chips against four but it seems like a mega amount of power. |

So it can't play today's games? Or will it play them, just not use most of the power?
I recofiged my system: Ticket Number: 194011 Total Price with Instant Savings: $2,968.00 System Config:http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=194011 With that, I get instead of 750GB space, I get 1TB, I get highest RAM, 3.0 GHz QUAD, My blu ray gets in the configuration, The same graphics card, same OS, same TV Tuner, etc.... All still under my budget of $3000. NOW, what I CAN do is sacrifice Lightscribe, Corsair RAM for OZ RAM, and my TV Tuner and I would be able to get the GTX 280 graphics card. for $2991. Still make my budget with more power though. |

What hes saying is that its going to take a while for games to actually use quad cores for anything else but here-and-there texture rendering which is the job of GPUs for the most part.
And so far games that have taken up support for quad cores have been sucking - content wise.
Plus, dont forget what happend to Crysis, most of the gaming industry took notice - having a game made playable for high-end rigs only catters to a small % of total gaming market. I would worry about having a decent GPU. Edited by Nomak - 12 Oct 2008 at 9:57am |

I'm still kinda confused about Quad core and games. Games that use quad, suck. But regular games that may use dual, play it well? |

Well, its more of an opinion - and they all smell differently. After doing a quick review of games that utilize Quads, i came to a conclusion that all of them suck and work fine w/o actually requiring for you to have a Quad CPU in order to enjoy them.
Now, with the way Intel is trying to promote their Quads and killing off Duos they are most likely *really* pushing game developers to take advantage of their them. But, knowing Intel are money grabbing <snip>ers and game's industry ambition to make more $, Duos will be supported and games will be tailored with Duos as being the prime gaming CPU for the time being. Thats just my prediction.
In other words, the only people pushing for Quad supremacy in games are Intels backers who are hungry for more profit. Edited by Nomak - 12 Oct 2008 at 10:31am |

Oooohhhh..... so it works for everything. got it.
So how well does Crysis run for you? Like, are all of your settings on Very High? I'm trying to make a benchmarking computer for cheap. I think that my config will run it pretty damn well if you ask me. |

your config will run any game perfectly fine. and before you go spending your money on an ati 4870x2 have a look at this charts: have a look here, iati seperates itself in high resolutions, otherwise some cases gtx is going better have a look at all the info and make up your mind ![]() |
