I am happy to say that my new DS rig arrived today through Fed-Ex. I couldn't be happier with the system, and before I post pics/stats I just want to thank those of you who helped me to build it, especially DST4ME, Samael, and Harleyman.

So, I ordered the system on Feb 13th, changed the order on Feb 17th, and finally received it on March 3rd, a respectable 18 days later. When it first arrived I kind of had the same reaction as everyone else, which is about the size of the box. It's massive. I am 6'3 and this thing came up nearly to my waist. I was just shocked at the size of this monster. I unpacked it, and after a brief tussle with the side fan, got it hooked up and turned on. The computer has ran flawlessly since first start-up and I've already tested a few games with great results.

So, without further hold up here come the specs, followed by the pictures.

----------

First, some comparison pictures. The first set of pictures is the old computer. I bought this mess at Best Buy for 1300 dollars about two and a half years ago. To this day I still don't know what I was thinking. Admittedly I didn't take the best care of it, which is why you see an alarming amount of dust in a few pictures. Believe me, I'm going to take much better care of the new box. Anyways, on with the show..

Side view, panel off.

Close up of the video card, you're not dreaming.. it's a 7300LE

Another close up of the 7300LE

Motherboard / Extreme wiring

Fan / Dust

The old computer, standing tall.

----------
After a quick trip down memory lane I opened up the new computer.
----------

The box at the top of the stairs after a struggle to get it up there by myself.

Freshly opened box, new computer smell~

Side view, with padding still inside. I thought I got another picture without the side panel, and still with the foam. I was mistaken.

Our first look at the inner workings of the new computer.

Close up of the GTX285 - This card actually exceeded my expectations when I loaded up the machine.

A close up of the frostbite stage 3 cooling (blue obviously)

The view from my chair. The lighting is kind of odd on this one, I just ended up pulling back the curtain, leaning back and snapping a shot. Yes, I really need that many napkins.

I had a really nice shot of the computer keeping cool after an hour of gaming on Crysis, but it seems I've misplaced that one also.

As you can tell, I clearly forgot to re-size my pictures. Sorry about that.

Great pictures!  I especially like seeing the comparison to the old machine.  It lets you know how much better of a new machine that you have now.  A piece of advice is to stop benchmarking and get into a few of your favorite games so that you can experience what full immersive gaming is all about!

I have had my beast for a couple of weeks and I am just now actually getting into serious gaming again.  It is a totally different experience especially playing Crysis and COD WAW since I now have Physx and DX10.

Take a day or two just for yourself and the ultimate gaming experience.  We will be here when you get back!

Thanks for the excellent pictures!!!!

I made a point to take the before and after pictures, just because no one really does it, and it's fun to see how big of an upgrade these machines actually are for most of us.

I was pretty excited when I checked the temps after my last Crysis session (at 40-55FPS) to find my GPU at 44C and my CPU at between 47-52C.

It should also be noted, that most likely due to my dust collection that the 7300LE was running at 91C after only 30 minutes of Counter Strike the other day.

One note for those of you who purchase a DS computer with the HAF case in the future: Be aware that the side panel (actually the side fan) is attached to the computer (plugged in). When I originally opened the side of the case to remove the inner packaging, I just pulled the side panel straight off.. and unplugged it before even realizing what I did. Took me a good five minutes to figure out where it was plugged in.

theyhm,

I did the same thing when I took the cover and inner packaging out.  I was very concerned that I didn't plug it into the wrong place.

Figured it out and was gaming within the hour!!

Actually mine connected directly to the motherboard.  It took a minute or two and a good flashlight to match up the connectors.  Some units seem to connect to a cable and some like mine goes directly to the motherboard.

I also notice that some case lights are vertical and some are horizontal.  Mine is horizontal.

Yeah, the one I'm using now is a 19inch LG, I've been looking at these 25.5'' samsung monitors. They seem pretty expensive though.
