So i'm buying a new CPU cooler and i'm tired of my old Cooling stage 1 CPU cooler. My price range is $40(+$10 for shipping) so all around $50. and i found on ei might want to put in my 750i case. The problem is is, i'm not sure if my Case is big enough to hold the darn thing. it's a 140mm fan and a huge heat sink. http://www.xpcgear.com/scytheorochi.html here is the CPU cooler.
by the way here are my PC specs, i'm not sure if it'll make a difference whether or not i can fit that beatsy thing into my small 750i case. The Scythe Orochi is one of the most massive coolers available. However, since it is a downward blowing design (if you use a fan), the height might not be as bad as it would seem. Find the statistics on a website and then physically measure the inner clearance of your case. The Orochi is designed to be utilised as either passive or active cooling, so with good case cooling, you might get away with even less clearance. If you think you need a fan, take into account another 25 to 30 mm for clearance. I'd err on the large side so that you don't wind up having to force the case closed if you buy it and find it a bit too large.
Personally, I'd opt for a smaller hsf for your case. A smaller top down hsf might do very well for you. Gelid has a decent one for your price range. It's interesting that you found the orochi for such a low price however. |

Skunk had a good one. The xigmatek S1283 i used to have this cooler myself. Its fantastic. But there is a better version. Dark Knight S1283V. It is only a 120mm rifle cooler. Comes with a ~90cfm 120mm fan with rubber anti vibration rubbers to mount it.
That will keep your CPU very cool and make it very overclockable. I got an E8500 to 4.05ghz on the original S1283. The bolt through kit that comes with the Dark Knight would allow for even more cooling because of the extra pressure on the CPU. Make sure to use some good thermal paste. I recommend Arctic Silver 5. Apply as shown below. Fill in the cracks between the aluminum and the copper heat pipes. Then put 2 lines down the aluminum fins in the middle. ![]() Edited by PatrickB - 12 Mar 2009 at 12:50am |
