So after playing the Star Wars Old Republic beta at my brother’s house I am going to drop rift and pick it up when it launches.  The minimum system specs are...

Disk Drive - 8x or better *Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.

Operating - System Windows XP, Vista/7

Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better · Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better

RAM - Windows XP: 1.5GB · Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB · PCs using a built-in graphical chipset, 2GB RAM recommended.

Video Card - ATI X1800 or better* · nVidia 7800 or better* · Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*

Now this will be the main game I will be playing so I only really care about if it will run this game.  I currently game on a 1440x900 monitor.  I would like to get a U2212HM Dell to upgrade from my current monitor.

I have $2,000.00 right now and will have another $500.00 by the middle of next month, I was looking at the ODE lvl 1 but could wait to swing the ODE lvl 3 if that would be a better gaming rigs.  I looked at custom configs but couldn't really find anything to beat thee prices of the ODE line.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

You can't beat ode prices, but then again ode does not have the top performing parts either, custom config will give you better reliable/performing parts, but it will cost you.

for your new res (u22) I would recommend single gpu, however for other games you may need sli.

your options are to forgo sli ability and get ode 1.

go sli now with ode 3

get custom config with better parts that can do sli but has one gpu for now, you drop the second one in if you need it (cost of this config will be around $2000)

keep in mind new gpus are coming out in the next couple of months.

minimum or recommend specs never really represent what it takes to max a game out.

So with the custom one all I would need to do is drop the second card into it if I needed to?  From my reasearch SWOR wont be utilizing SLI when it launches.  Also from some of the other post the monitor is a solid one correct?  Could you suggest a build with only a single card but the ablitly to drop a second one into?

Hi Zipter

DST keeps getting kicked off the servers like I was days ago so I'll give you what DST might give ya until he gets back.  Bear in mind I don't have it all together in config suggestions like him.

Type in config 630294 into Load config. for about $2100.  The deluxe mobo and 1050 corsair ps will give you sli capability down the road.  Normally the 942 HafX case is suggested but their out of stock so I put in 600t.  942Hafx Nvidia edition is great if you don't mind all the green.  HDD is 500MB but whatever your needs can be adjusted by you.   The A70 cooler is great.
And yes, with this it's a simple matter to add another gpu.
The ODE 3 can't be beat for bang for the buck with ssd, sli570, but the custom does give you better ps, cpu cooler.

Yes all you do is drop in the second card.

for monitor I like the u23 and 24, u22 has the lowest specs and etc.

can't config a system for you right now cause the config page is acting up like the forum.

Here is the configuration suggested by bprat22. I would get Stage 2 OC. It is a good build where you can add a SSD or second GPU later if you want them.

You can get the ODE-3 for $200 more and have SLI GPU, a SSD and stage-2 OC right now. The ODE-3 doesn't have as good of a MoBo, power supply or cooling. The ODE-3 does have a bigger HD.

Guys why pay $2110 for no ssds when you can pay $70 more and have a ssd? not to mention a bigger case with better airflow.

Hi bprat22,

First you edit your configuration to how you want it. On the Customization page look at the top of the page and click "Save & Email". It will take you to another page with a list of the components. Simply copy and paste the components into your post.

I thought you were already copying from the save page.

anytime you can ssd takes priority over hdd, so when you can get the intel 320 120GB for $70 more only vs the much slower 500GB, then you go ssd, he adds hdd later, for 2 reasons:

1. as I mentioned ssd takes priority over hdd due to perfomrance.

2. hdd prices are very high right now, it is because of it that we are advising people to get the 500GB vs the 1TB BC. Its better to get the ssd now and add the 1TB BC later when hdd prices come back down to normal, they are almost triple right now.

DST, I have tried copy/paste months ago and it didn't work. I copy/paste all the time elsewhere.   Just tried it again after FrankW mentioned it and now it works great.

Go figure. Confused

I always thought an ole fashion HDD took priority, with SSD if you can swing the $$$.  I gotta get one some day.

Thanks.

When prices of hdd was normal, hdd was recommend cause the ssd difference was over $150, but now with hdd prices high, the ssd is only a few more dollars so now we go with ssd whenever the difference is that small.

when the hdd prices come back down and the difference becomes huge again, we go back to hdd first.

Thats weired how your copy/paste didn't work before but does now, I've been doing it for over 3 years.

If got the U2412m from dell would I need to change anything in the config?  Also since none of my current games use SLI is it a waste of money to be ready for it or is it just better future investment?

Thats a tough call zipter, here is the way I look at it, I like to always have as many if not all options available to me just in case. Now that of course depends on the budget.

If you know you don't need sli, then we can do a single gpu system or you can go ode 1, the trade off is that if in a year or so, any of your games or any new games you many like needs sli, you are not going to be able to do it, your options will be to get new mobo and psu or a new pc.

So thats the tough call, you wanna chance it and save some money, or not chance it and spend more.

Hi Zipter,

I am someone who said that I would never use SLI and built my system based from that perspective. What I didn't consider is that because my system was such a big improvement I am gaming more. So here I sit with my single GPU system with no way to upgrade with out buying two GPUs, a new MoBo and a new power supply. So very costly to go SLI. I regret not configuring my system with more upgrade options.

Looks solid DST, but quick question the ODE lvl 3 is only a couple hundred more than your config but it already has a second card and the Hdd installed.  Is the difference have something to do with the brand of the parts?

As I mentioned before/above you are getting better performing more reliable parts.

Also in the future if you want to upgrade the sli to future cards and they have needs of a 580 sli the 800w can't do it.
