for wow you need single gpu, for some fps you may need sli, I will give you a config with one gpu but can handle 2, you can drop in the second if you see you need sli, no point in wasting money on a second card if you won't benefit from it.

They will tell you the performance gain/cost ratio is way to high at the moment for the 580 because of high demand. I went with it anyways, cause I didn't care if I was paying more for a small performance gain. But it is best if your certain your going single card, just cost a bit more up from the 570 at the moment like I said because of high demand.

when the difference actually counts, aka fps around 50 to 60 fps, the difference between 570 and 580 is like 10 fps max, if a single 570 can't do it, single 580 won't cut it either, and you can oc the 570 and get around the same performance as the 580, it turns out to be more then $10 for each fps for those 10fps differences, and that is not worth it, for those reasons, we don't recommend the 580.
At your res wow should be just fine with a 570, crysis with no aa and medium settings should do fine. adding a gpu is extremely simple for somebody who has never done it. now if you are going to 2560 x 1600 res, then I would go sli now, do do that simply click on my config and chose 2 x 570/6970, 6970 IMHO is better. I'm not a big sound expert to be honest, I'm told from people that are, "if sound quality is important to you then get a sound card, otherwise the mobo sound these days are pretty good". should i invest in a surge protector or something along those lines cuz im in FL lighting capital, power goes out all the time and was just wandering if tht will effect this comp. i have a cheapy dont really know wat it is, it plugs in the wall and i just plug everything into tht, dont think its protecting anything. any feedback on what model or what i should look at would be awesome.
did get the monitor the other day and wow!!! have it plugged into my laptop right now, all this extra space is making me tired haha, great monitor out of the box would recommend it for sure |

Those IPS panels are somethings else
a good psu does a great job of protecting itself, so IMHO, either a proper battery backup or plug it straight to the wall. |

sli 570 or 6970 is good, 6970 could better in some games due to higher vram. for 1900 x 1200 I like single or sli 570, for 2560 x 1600 I like cf 6970.

DST4ME, us noobs all appreciate the feedback from you as well as the other regulars here on the DS forums. Trying to configure a new rig is very intimidating with all the options out there. With regard to 570SLI vs 6970CF, I've heard some concerns regarding the heat level and the noise level of the 6970CF. I don't care so much about noise level, but would the heat level concern you?
Regards, Benson

@Bensonc120, heat issues are personl, biggest factore is room temp, if your room temp is warm then all your temps is gonna be warm, there is also the cooling solution for the card, if its stock cooling then the case's airflow will play a good role also, with a case like haf x, and room temp of 70-75f, there should be no heat issue.
Then there is how far apart cards are from each other in sli/cf, there are many factors that go into heat, its hard to compare one person's setup to another. Having said all that, here dealing with DS, if our temps are over 85c, DS will deal with the situation, as those are not acceptable temps, 85c and below are acceptable. @Aka, can't wait for pics and specs
I'm not aware of a good oc guide for SB right now but then again I have not had much time to do anything with oc for a good while now. |

Can't help you with overclock, not that you need it. EvGA website has a. SLI Enhancement driver with some support for latest games. Works great. Might want to give it a try.
I'm assuming MSI afterburner for the overclock. Good luck and Congrats Fr3shm3at |

Aka,
download MSI Afterburner. you simply raise clock and shader and test the gpu to make sure the oc is stable, when you get to the point where its failing your tests, then raise the core voltage a bit, and try not to go over 1.100, with 1.125 being your max. first you need to go up slow, from 700 to 750 then 800, once at 800 go up slower in 10Mhz. you don't have to oc memory. as you go up slow, each time you want to test the gpu with fah gpu client or something like furmark or Kombuster and if it passes the tests, then you up the core a little gain as mentioned before and run the test again. remember you want the highest stable speed with lowest voltage, the lower the voltage the better. |
