We just launched our latest gaming laptop, Equinox. This new unit features an ultra-thin design (0.78" thick) that makes no compromises in performance or cooling. Featuring the latest NVIDIA GTX 870M graphics card and a high-resolution 1920x1080 display, this is a mobile powerhouse.

What chassis are you using for this? Custom, Clevo, or something else?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's the MSI G series GS60 Ghost Pro, or some version of.

Nice though I personally hate windows 8's ditigtal guts. 7 is so much nicer. Speaking of OS have you guy over at DS ever considered making Computers for Linux? I'm curious to see what monster you guys would end up designing.

You can still change the OS to Windows 7 |

The more I use 8.1 (at home) makes me hate 7 (here at the office) more and more. 7, imho, is so limited and primitive. And this is coming from an XP user from 2002 to this last March when DS and 8..1 appeared in my life. But again, as I've written many times: That's why they make chocolate and vanilla,... we're all different, thank goodness.
DS will install Windows 7 for you, as ArkansasWoman points out.
Cheers.

Looks very nice, though it seems you can't customize it as much as you can the other laptops...also, random question, but you're not selling the Javelin anymore? T_T

I'm interested to see how big the charger is. The krypton charger is pretty beefy

Not going to say I hate Windows 7 at all, as I still love that OS and use it on my work laptop, but 8.1 is not deserving of the hate that 8 got. It's pretty damn easy to stay in the desktop if you want, and if you want to do some media consumption, the Modern UI apps for things like Hulu and Netflix come in quite handy. A plus with the Netflix app is you will actually get the highest resolution that Netflix makes available (as long as you have the bandwidth), which you cannot get watching it in a browser, due to the usual DRM crap that Netflix and MS have to deal with. |

Not only big, but I've noticed lately that it gets extremely hot when I'm playing Skyrim. |

Indeed it gets super hot while gaming. I hope the equinox charger is smaller as it's kind of redundant to make the laptop ultra thin if we gotta carry a giant brick around with it. |

You'd only need the charger if you're planning on a 3+ hour gaming session assuming this thing has the 4 hour battery Life most laptops do. |

I gotta ask, does the Equinox have any customization options? When I looked I noticed it didn't seem to have a DVD/CD drive, so that was why I went with the Lance...

I believe so. In a thread elsewhere it was stated that the 9x0M cards would be coming in mid to late November.

Has this laptop been discontinued? It's not on the laptop page anymore.

The laptop systems have been changing pretty regular lately. I think a lot of it has to do what manufacturers are offering. I'd shoot an email to DS and ask there. On the forum we don't have any DS marketing info.
Good Luck. |
